The only possible change to the decisions above would be if both Tomasoid & Lefnufrag both voted Yes to RANDOM EVENTS.

I vote for NO random events.

That Stars! Diadochi Wars will plow on for a long time anyways.
|
I'd estimate 9 months until game end, assuming no large holds. The real kicker is the time-per-turn - you will need to do a good job of automating your empire if you are to avoid seeing your turns blow out to 2-3 hours each in mid-late game. Plan your empire well to minimise micromanagement! Accept (some) inefficiencies to buy time!
I know of one huge packed duel, that went to 500 planets per player in late game and they managed to complete, so you'll all be fine

Hi!
I'm going to short vacation from August 5 till August 13 (inclusive). If you decide to start at some day during that period, and would not like to wait for me, then drop me off.

Tomasoid - I still haven't heard from Donjon but am about to send him both PM & email - if the game is ready to start by 4th do u want to set up queueing & such for the period you're away?
Otherwise if there is a futher dalay of a week or so i'm not sure how many people would want to wait despite the fact that, from your forum posting, you're clearly a keen Stars! player.

I think waiting an extra week or so is not going to make any difference so Im happy to wait. Main reason I think is cus more players we have more fun the game will be so its worth the wait.
Also just to mention I will be away for a week inclusive sometime this month most likely 28th Aug - 3rd Sept but Im happy to Q my orders.

I last heard from Donjon about a week ago when he said he'd be back "next week". I interpreted that to mean the beginning of the week but he must have meant end of the week.
With Tomasoid going away until Aug 13 and a number of players suggesting that we wait until he returns, I think it best to start the game on Aug 14.
Thus I see no reason not to accept new players at this time.
Joseph, you need to select your character (race name), send me your passworded race file to me and to PM Donjon at the same time with your password - I will send the race file on to Donjon (that way I will know that it's in).

Joseph, when u send your race file include your email address. Don't forget that IT & PP are disqualified.
At this stage there are 3 available player spots.

Leonnatus is fine - tho he died before the start of the first Diadochi war he was certainly a member of the Diadochi.

I actually have free time at work now, and since we're slowly going out of business that's not likely to change. So count me in as Alcetas if there is still a slot. I'll send the racefile and password to their respective places in a few minutes.
By the way, Pyrrhus died in Argos during street fighting. As he was killed by a roofing tile thrown by a woman, perhaps that's who you were thinking of with the thrown-fruit death.

U may be right - I thought (from memory) that the fruit incidence occured in southern Italy whereas Argos is in Sparta. Pyrrhus had a relative (brother?) called Alexander who died in southern Italy & that was a major reason why Pyrrhus invaded southern Italy & Sicily but if it was Alexander who so died then it would be a huge coincidence since Pyrrhus did indeed die in the way u say in 273BC.
We now have 15 players (all race files are in):
Cleitos [Mark]
Ptolemy [AlexThe Great]
Craterus [ADG_Wraith]
Pyrrhus [Steve]
Alexander V [vmanuel]
Olympias [Crappicus]
Seleucos [Jagophile]
Antigonos [ForceUser]
Phillip III [Staz]
Roxana [hiunmaiden]
Eumenes [Tomasoid]
Antipater II [Lefnufrag]
Lysimachos [JasonC]
Leonnatus [Joseph]
Alcetas [Marduk]
Final voting & decisions re. optional game parameters:
1. Slow Tech. Yes:3, No:9, No Response:3. NO SLOW TECH.
2. Public Scores. Yes:0, No:4 From 2480:8, No Response:3. PUBLIC SCORES FROM 2480.
3. Play on weekends. Yes:10, No:2, No Response:3. WE PLAY ON WEEKENDS.
4. Alliance size limit. 4:7, 3:6, No Response:2. LIMIT is 4.
5. Random Events. Yes:5, No:7, No Response:3. NO RANDOM EVENTS.

So does this mean we are back to huge/sparse (600 planets) and 27 cities?
If so, could you PM out the 27 city bitmap? Also, would the UnivCrt settings change from sensitivity 10, min distance 7 ?

At that stage the 27-city map became 29 cities.
Yes, with 14-16 players we use the 29-city (600 star) universe. I am about to PM all of you with that version of the template.
I have done a little tinkering with that template & I will suggest that Donjon use:
Sensitivity:12
Min. Star Dist:8
All other settings:Default
Donjon is, however, more experienced than I with remapping so he may decide that other settings are better.

The fact that you're a newbie is not of itself a problem BUT you should have the following background:
1. You have done well against AIs. If you have not been able to hand out a thorough thrashing against expert AIs you are not likely to be competitive against humans.
2. Have read the Strategy Guide? You need to be familiar with it. If u haven't got it then download it from http://home20.inet.tele.dk/craebild/SSG.zip
3. Have read the "Must Know" section of this forum.
If you do want to play then, as a newbie:
1. Use a PRT that can develop a strong economy - CA,JOAT & IT are good newbie choices but IT is banned in this scenario. Remember that good pop growth is essential to a strong econ.
2. Do not expect other players to go easy on you - players with whom you form an alliance will probably give u a few tips & be otherwise generally helpful (no guarantees) but if you get into a fight then your opponent will probably hit u as hard as they can.
If still interested then read all of the interaction above re. this game & follow the instructions given in response to Joseph.
Time is short so I can only guarantee 24 hours to get your race file in.

Poodle, let me know which Diadochi character you've selected.
I should also point out that this game is likely to take 6-12 months to complete. As a newbie you may not realise that.
