Do I need RC4?

Hello...

I played Stars! a number of years ago and want to get back into it!

I have a copy of Stars version 2.6j RC3. I noticed that most people on this site seem to have RC4. Will I need this to play with others here? If so, is there a way I can upgrade?

I'm pretty sure JRC3 will work (that the changes between them are entirely on the host's side of things).

However, you can always be safe and grab jrc4 from http://starsautohost.org/kn2050.htm (click the STARS26JRC4.ZIP link at the top).

Hmmm... the only problem is I don't know my serial number anymore... I understand that Ron can no longer give them out?

I've continued to use JRC3 since the switchover by AutoHost years ago. Haven't had any major problems that I can recall.

I'm not sure, but I think that as long as you don't delete the "Stars.ini" file in your Windows directory, you shouldn't need to re-enter your serial upon using jrc4.

If you want to make sure to have jrc3 if jrc4 doesn't work, you could always make a backup copy of your current Stars.ini beforehand. Cool
