Please Help me. I am an old fan of stars! I have decided to reinstall my old copy (rediscovered on a zip disk that was mixed up in some old college stuff). I get prompted for my serial number, which is long gone.

After doing some homework I realize that Stars! is no longer sold.

If anybody knows where I can get a serial number, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Eagleites

short answer: You can't.
Slightly longer answer: We're working on it. See the many other threads on this topic.

atm you best bets are to either find your old serial code or to wait and hope someone finds a spare they're willing to sell.

Well there are many sites on the net which supply lost serials... The name of one I like starts with "serial" and ends on "safe", and it is hosted in Canada.

BTW IMHO stars! can be considered "abandonware", since "Mare Crisium" seems to be defunct, regretably.

my girlfriend and i bought 2 copies of stars around last november from xplosiv. If i'm not mistaken, the website with the info is stars dot lelv30 dot net. I truly dont remember if i tracked them down using the numbers given or if there was an online automated purchase screen. But they did post mail 2 game disks with serials to the US for me. I paid $25 total, and received the disks within 10 days.

= the Acedemic Bookstore of the Stockmans department store here in Helsinki. As far as I know, they do not have serial numbers anymore.

Though we often ask how and why, we must also do to get the answers to the questions.

If there is a player that is no longer playing, there is nothing to stop him giving out his serial number to someone else - or selling it to them. Effectively, the copyright isn't being violated since the serial number is only being used by one person.

It is sad that it is no longer sold, I agree, but If for only one second you might think you can take Bathtubian's advice, y suggest that before you use it somewhere else you arrange for playing a game between you two with the same serial.

Stars! has a copy-protection scheme that will make the experience quite funny and utterly frustrating. Laughing

You better wait for some other solution to be worked out. Cool

Getting a trusted serial, even for free, is fine as long as you can be absolutely sure you inherit it completely, and there is no chance of somebody else using it too.

If we were esteemed intelligent 'enough', they would have contacted us.
If we can not find them, either we are not smart enough, or they are smarter at hiding.
