I just noticed a message at an enemy planet in a game for a minefield:

Field Type: Standard
Field Radius: 1ly (1 mines) Laughing
Decay Rate: 10/year

That's one mighty big mine Very Happy

And one item from the past: Back before the Robber Baron was 'fixed', Robber Barons could beam up enemy populations. Now, since it could beam up minerals I really don't see why it shouldn't beam up people. In my opinion it wasn't broken at all. Great fun for the SS - arrive at the enemy planet, beam up the population (all except a couple thousand). Brainwash them in the freighters and send them back down the next year to take the planet for you Very Happy . Very efficient Laughing

As an aside from this for dealing with enemy populations;
I really don't like to wipe out old, defunct enemies. Much more efficient to enslave their populations on planets I can't live on anyway and use them as slave mining labor Smirk

Of course, in 'fixing' the scanner they actually broke it. Now it can't do waypoint one loading of enemy minerals like it used to...... Hit Computer ---- lots more MM Asleep at cptr

Please post your interesting amusing items in this thread - great fun for all Crazy

On map only Grant shows up. Click just a hair above center of planet and Neil shows up instead. At first it was a challenge attacking the right planet.

Hi!

I dislike a LOT of things. The most of all:
- inability to make custom game startup in other way than actually play the game before the startup and arrange everything
- there are no clear rules descrivbed from technical point of view. IMO, all strategy games should have all technical rules described clearly - I mean description that matches to the code of game 1 to 1.
- really really bad AI
- too hard MM which I see could be improved in really many ways without breaking balaciuing or game-playing in general
- lack of in-game tools (like sharing of oplanet information etc.)

Total amusing (in a sad twisted way) that we are all still playing Stars!, because no one has made a better version.

The life of a star depends only on how much mass the star has. Stars that are 10 times the mass of the Sun will last about 100 million years. Stars with about the Sun's mass last about 13 billion years, and stars about one tenth the mass of our Sun last 100 billion years or longer.

The average rock star lives to be 36.9 years. Cool

Now come on people,

This isn't a thread for Stars! bashing. It's a thread for things that make you laugh - like so!
Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Ahh, if THAT way, then I'll re-phrase things I posted Wink

- My 5th element game startup takes 3 days to create. Shocked If make a simple built-in tool for host to allow host modify universe, player positions, starting planet population/mines/ etc., assign tech levels, create fleets and colonies etc., it would take 1 hour, or even less. Laughing

- See my thread in PP sub-forum. Getting test results like that took for me a whole 2 weekends to create at least more or less matching theory how exactly PP teraforming works. Shocked Why we should do tests like that and dig out every piece of infomration, when documentation, if mintained carefully, may give that all without any work like that? Laughing

- really really bad AI - just read several FAQ and articles about how to defeat Stars! AI. You will find there a lot of really funny things
Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

- too hard MM which I see could be improved in really many ways without breaking balaciuing or game-playing in general. My AR tests go second month already and I see it would take almost the same to finish it. I guess after that I'll be able to do the most MM when playing blitz - will be well-trained for MM Laughing

- Recently I spent 1 & half hours to examine another player dump file and dig out what planets exactly I would like to colonize. In another game, it took several days till I got dump file with hab info (new planets report style) instead of an old-style report that contains no hab info at all. In certain cases I already would explore that space by self before I get it and get time to process it Laughing . Such way of info exchange makes alliances work hard to get good results, but that also makes alliances more tense Teleport Smile

Thre are many utilities that were written for Stars! that do some of the things you look for. Planet Sniffer is one for checking habitable worlds. However, that is the subject for another topic so you should post a question in the Academy. I set this thread up for amusing anectdotes etc. I didn't set the thread up for discussios on mm or utilities or, for discussions of any kind for that matter. I like the AI - nice to know I can reliabley take over the galaxy at any time Cool

Ptolemy, you still taking it serious? Wink Why did not you asked then why I returned to playing Stars! if it is SOOO disliked by me? Wink

mlaub already pointed out exactly what I meant Laughing

Really, the most amusing thing is that we still playing Stars! despite a lot of things in it are far from being well. Instead of Stars! developers, _players_ themselves create tools, algorithms, investigate exact formulas of packet teraforming etc., make custom startups like Huge remapped game, and get fun from all of that.

Thumbsup 2

Hmmm... Did you try it with tri-immune AR? Wink It would be totally amusing because not that reliable Twisted Evil

Hi!

I'll give a try to follow the goal of this thread Wink Sorry if something.

In-game message:
"A battle took place at Sand Castle involving 3 races. Your entire armada of 1 forces was destroyed by 12 enemy forces. You didn't manage to destroy a single ship."
That "armada" was a plain Smaugarian Peeping Tom Laughing
Well, if I would have 20 of them above that planet, how it would be called then? "armada of armadas"? Laughing

My colonizing fleet that was going to reach planet in 3 years on warp 8 actually was not able to, ending at the point 1 l.y. before the planet Shocked Looks like that fleet staff did not clean up engine tubes properly Evil or Very Mad

Its always amazing how much of scanning info you can get from a warp 16 PP mineral packet that is as large as... 1kT! It acts as a super miniature scout of really great scanning power, and with a power enough to pass all that info back to commanders. Looks like there is something like extrasensory individual with really great telepathy power flying on that packet Shocked
