Starting positions? Probably not. Capt Maim will be doing the setup for me.

Diplomacy? Good thinking. Teams should consider the others enemies at all times.

The 100 LY rule is slightly relaxed at the starting positions due to the distance a player at the outer cluster must travel. Small shortcuts at the center may be taken. Smile

I'd like the 100ly rule fully spelled out, so there is no confusion after the game starts.
</Rule Lawyer>

And I have a suggestion:
Just make it you can't be more then 100ly from any planet, this allows you to be in space, just not far from clusters.

And another suggestion:
Drop the rule, let people fly where they want to, the gaps in planets will tend to keep people out of them, but you'll have to be vigilant.

- Homeworlds will be moved to a player's starting cluster. Once this is achieved, the player doing the setup will set research to lowest field and queue autobuild 100 facts, 100 mines, and some max terraforming in case of comet hit.

Could a player request that the factories be dropped from the queue, to allow playing a -f?

I'd also like to see the starting tech field be selectable. i.e. a PP that starts at energy 4 would not necessarily wish to have the first field researched be energy...

OK - now, as for the universe definition...

Since it appears that we will be defining 3 player teams I suggest that the clusters be set at the ends of the arms so that there is one cluster at the end and the other 2 clusters are to the sides and slightly 'below' the center cluster (in the form of a triangle). This gives each cluster ease of access to the arm. I suppose that each team gets assigned their own arm? i.e. with 5 teams of 3 we would be playing with a star of 5 arms? I would hope so...

You realise I am not setting up the universe here. I can ask Captain Maim these questions and see how much MM he's willing to put in, above and beyond what he's going to do as well.

The 3 clusters idea Ptolomy said is already thought of. As is the possibility of a 5 starred arm.

Leit - I'll think about the 100 LY rule. It was intended to make conflict in the center of the map happen. All teams fighting in one area for dominance.

Unfortunately my availability is all over the map, but it'll settle down in a few months to steady evenings. I think timezone is the best way to go for us anyway.

Players MAY NOT move farther then 100 LY away from any planet. If it's more than warp 10 away, you cannot move there. (Gating is allowed). This is to prevent players from moving to the other teams clusters without moving to the center. This does NOT apply when moving from your starting cluster to the closest arm leading to the center!!

YOu can move to points in space. This was my original point, but I was not clear enough in my initial description. Thank you to the Rules Lawyer to point out my faulty wording on this.

Effectively, you could cross a 200 LY gap, so long as you were within 100 LY of a planet when you stopped moving.

Sorry for any misunderstanding. Embarassed

Edog and I exchanged a few e-mails. We need a third, someone willing to take the lead on the team.

We're in GMT-5 and GMT-7 (I think - Eastern and Mountain)

Let us know.

I was talking with Ptolomy the other night and in the best interest of getting the game rolling, he came up with a nice idea.

We can get the game rolling by combining the two teams of two players into one four player team. We'd then have a three armed star to start with. There would still be three clusters, so two players would have to share a starting position with their homeworld.

The other option is to let those two teams play with two players. Slight handicap? Yes. Less micromanagement with a smaller team? Yes.

Teams, please post where you stand on getting a 3rd teammate. If you're having trouble, let's look at one of the two options.

LEit - talk with your team about the two options. If not a problem, we can start getting the universe genned.

I like the idea of a larger team. It doesn't give that much of an advantage, since now the same amount of stars per cluster must be shared four ways instead of three. It also allows the four-player team to explore more "toy" races.

That's my vote.

I'm not a big fan of having varied numbers in the teams, in particular having a team of 4 doesn't sound good to me - they get to play with 4 sets of PRT toys, and can all individually take narrower hab and still cover just as many stars and thus have better use of their space. Ouch. Better to wait for the teams to fill up, I doubt it'll take that long and the game itself will take much longer so the wait is worth it.

Hi,

As it seems my team just won its huge/packed game, I'm free now for a nice AFON start. Is there still a place somewhere? Very Happy

Teams 4 & 5 are still looking for a 4rd player.

If we get 5 teams, the map will be redrawn to have 5 arms. (yay!)

So that means that no points along the move you make in a single turn can ever be more than 100 l.y. from a planet ?
Otherwise you could cross a 300 l.y. gap.

Example. A - B is 300 l.y. in a straight line.
I simply sail from A to B at Warp 10.
I will never be more than 100 l.y. from a planet in any turn, but I must have been 150 l.y. from both at some point.

I'm not being picky. Just pointing it out. Smile

But it does make sticking to the rule very fiddly in most circumstances. So maybe the rule should be you can't be more than 100 l.y. at the end of each turn, which then leads to the 300 l.y. example above.
