Yes, that is correct - there is the MT probe as well. However, I would choose MT ships as long as I knew that it was giving ships and could get around 40 million kt of minerals to the MT. MT's seem to give more ships for extra minerals and I would dearly love about 30 MT lifeboats in one fleet around that time of the game.
MT Probe has been added.

That makes perfect sense Kotk,
I do happen to know that when an MT hands out ships he doesn't necessarily give the same to each player. I have been in games where I received MT scouts and my ally received MT Lifeboats from the same MT. As with tech levels, you can influence how many ships you sending more minerals.
There is obviously a random number generator used to determine what type of ship is handed out for a trade when the trader is handing out ships. I'd love to know the way the code is designed to determine what specific tech levels it hands out when it hands out tech.
