i cannot seem to get my turn to download correctly.
when i download, it tells me that the year i've
downloaded is previous to the year that we're working
on. i.e. i get 2427. next time i tried to do it, i
got a "corrupt file" thing. do you know how to fix
this?

I replied with...

hmmm really not sure...I just downloaded your 2428 turn file, but I don't have your history file so I can only assume that the .h2 +.m2 combination is causing the "corrupt file" thing. Either that or it didn't download properly, which can be a pain since there may be a web cache between you and AH and may not be able to download the complete file...in case that's the problem I've attached your 2428 turn file. If all else fails you can delete the .h2 file and continue without the history...it sucks to lose the historical data, but at least you know the data is up-to-date Smile

Other things to check...I'd make sure you're playing with version 2.6jrc4 - I know the notes for it say that it only has server side fixes but the file it puts out have been shown to very very occasionally incompatible with jrc3

Anyone else have any other ideas?

I'd say it was likely the cache thing.
I used to get the problem a lot.
I don't get the problem any more since Ron installed the download password.

Doesn't seem to be...I emailed him a certified working copy of his turn file at that appears corrupt too, But just in case...when it did happen..how did you fix it?

Sounds like we are talking about two different problems.
My problem was simply that the file from the previous turn was cached somewhere and I was downloading that instead of the new version.

Has he deleted the x file as well as the h file ?

There are various incompatible with each other Stars patches and hacks around but if player say he has right and working version then that is quite unlikely.

Most likely some of files is corrupt at his side. Stars uses *.x2 *.m2 *.h2 and *.xy files for playing the turn of player 2.

If *.h2 file is corrupt Stars usually deletes it itself and creates new one. It is simple to notice because all previous knowledge (like old scouting info and score graph) is forgotten.

The *.m2 file is possible to open and play by gible so the problem is not at autohost side. There have been two different ways to transfer the file so problem with file transfer is also very unlikely. Unless player uses some very odd e-mail and browser system with totally screwed up settings it should not be the problem. So lets think that his *.m2 file is OK.

That leaves *.x2 and *.xy files under suspision. Rolling Eyes

Yep. I got him to send me all four files and was able to replicate a problem...stars reports the .x2 file being corrupt. so I tried again without it and everything appears fine...just waiting for the player to confirm deleting the .x2 file works for him too as he's using 2.7j(rc3?) vs my 2.6jrc4
