I use the mouse wheel function a lot to get distances between things (for any unaware, you can click the mouse wheel over an object and then drag a line to another location to see the distance between the object and the location). However, on one of my Stars installs this function becomes a move cursor sort of like I was clicking the wheel on a Web page.
Does anyone know how to tell Stars to use the distance function instead?

Hey, I didn't know the wheel did that! It's slightly easier with the wheel (since you can let go after clicking the wheel), but what I've always used is shift right click (you have to hold the mouse button down till you're done).
Since Stars! was pre mouse wheel, it has no code to support it, any handling of the mouse wheel comes from the OS sending other messages, you'd have to check your OS.

fwiw I don't think is it XP but rather the mouse driver...since the middle button works fine for distances for me with XP..and always has.
