Regarding the off topic HG duel race - I'd take 10/3/13 mines instead and pump the gained points into research - in a duel you don't need to worry about long term minerals

I must admit, I burst out laughing when I saw this .

Very true, I will try that. But what about the Hab. ranges?
In a real game it is year 17 and these are the planets:
I know 113
72 are red
11 are yellow
30 are green (does not count HW's)
statistics of greens:
10-20%=3
20-30%=9
30-40%=10
40-50%=4
50-60%=2
60-70%=1
70-80%=1
80-90%=0
90-100%=1

With initial planets, your results should be similar to those of the Humanoids (because your hab is just slightly narrower and shifted to the right). That's what I like about the immunity+narrow design BTW - the planets you get, even if they have poor initial hab, can usually be terraformed to be very very nice. For example, in the testbed for the 15% PGR race I mentioned in this thread most recently, some of the planets had habs like -2% (91%). How cool is that?

Yeah, when actually in a game I like to plug the data into a spreadsheet which contains a habitability calculator. Why? So I can make it tell me what I can expect the hab to be once you have, say 7/7/11 or 11/11/15 terraforming tech....
When you are planning a *new* race, you might like to have a play around with this fantastic little tool which gives you a pretty good idea of what you can expect your race to find (with and without terra) http://home20.inet.tele.dk/craebild/hab_range_tool/habrange_ cr.html
(theres a heap of great stuff on that site by the way, including a fuel usage / trip optimisation tool - I think the site is maintained by a regular here, but I don't recall exactly who)
