Looks a lot like NASA's worldwind http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/ except google has used aerial photography as well as satellites, and they built in a lot more functionality.

I'm going to try the google one when I get home, as it looks like they've got more hi-res material (worldwind doesn't get any better than 4m per pixel.) I hope it does as good a job of caching the data as WorldWind, as I don't want to have to download terabytes of data every time I want to take a look Wink

You can set it use up to 512meg of hd space for cache.

I wonder if it's possible to persuade it to use more than 512Mb for cache... In WorldWind I've got about 5 gigs of coverage stored - so if google goes to a higher res then it looks like I'll be doing a lot of repeat downloading. Sad

Very cool stuff though - both of them. I remember when I first zoomed out from Tokyo - that city is biiiiiig. Shocked

All I need now is a mod to show Godzilla walk around smashing stuff Very Happy
