Well, it's encouraging that some people like the idea. I also understand that some people like hours of MM and take pride in doing it well, which is fine as there would be games for them as well.

I'm just not sure I understand the reasons that Kotk and dennis are giving for it being impossible to implement though.

Running out of time is something that happens anyway, or getting unexpectedly called away happens anyway, and people miss turns. They deal with it now, and would deal with it in this kind of game.

And you can't download someone else's turn without their password, so that wouldn't be a problem either.

First of all, neither i am against the idea.......nor am i saying that it is impossible......

All I was trying to put across was whether it was a good idea to do it thru AutoHost.....because of the fact that the timing, if done the Autohost way, would not be very acurate because things happen but then as you and others say things happen anyways.........Smile

I never said that this was a bad idea.....its different and nice...but i still think that it would best be implemented in a new stars where the client program does actual timing of time spent on each turn....Smile Ofcourse this will just be an option.....in the "new stars" ...Smile

Well for this to be done thru Autohost......Ron would have to modify AH....the host would have to be allowed to set this option...mailing turns after gens would have to be stopped for that particular game.....the time stamps for downloads of turns will have to be recorded..which can be easily done since .....and when uploading......time will have to be checked...Smile

oh well.... Smile another game idea........Smile a welcome one.... Wink
Good one Staz.. Smile

regards....Smile

Everything is possible. There differences are probably doable. Download password must be implemented to make sure it is correct player who downloads the turn etc. things that dennis said.

What i am wondering is: Will there be enough players who want such uncomfortability added?

The only effect what it gives is it limits play time per turn. Rolling Eyes What i am constantly suggesting as cure to that "problem" (and you are ignoring) is to play only one game in smaller universe instead of playing multiple large games. Wink

There is nothing to MM in small game so play time per turn is effectively limited. All MM is doable with 20-30 minutes. No one needing to rewrite the Autohost. No problem if some opponent stare his turn 20 hours. Laughing So whats wrong there???

Maybe a useful feature for those who can't help staring at his turn for 20 hours Wink

If someone stares at anything for 20 hours, they might have some other problems and imposing a deadline on them is not the medicine they need Razz

I think you'll be in for a surprise if you try downloading a turn from the game page... Very Happy

Ron wisely implemented this feature a few months back when that no-password hack for the exe showed up.

Sorry, I wasn't deliberately ignoring this - I was focussing on other comments from your post.

I fully agree that a large part of the problem is just players taking on more than they should. But, to be fair, it's not always obvious how much time a game is going to take up. If you end up fighting against an SD you might not be able to get away with just 20 mins for a turn.

Besides, wouldn't it be nice to be able (for example) to join 3 games, each limited to 20 minutes per turn, once a day ? More variety.

I'd be willing to have a bash at making the changes myself if Ron was OK with it. I don't think it would be that much work, but then again, how would I know ? I've had a look at the turn exchange code but it is so old that it doesn't actually have a turn upload page at all.
