Hi!
Steve1 wrote on Tue, 29 March 2005 05:28 | It would also be nice to be able to build as many facs and ships as you desire in the first 20 years. There are limits of course, but extra surface Germ about 30 would make a substantial difference.

I my testbeds I run out of iron much earlier than out of germ. My current approach for this game is to build as many ships as possible, and build only so many mines to get enough iron for that. Factories are just a resource booster to make those mines to dig out enough iron. It will be plenty of time to build them in the next 100 turns.

| Idealy, higher amounts of both Iron and Germ would be preferable, but higher amounts of Germ is particularly important becuase if you have a low amount of germ at the Homeworlds then it tends to be so across the entire galaxy. The HW is okay because it always maintains minimal 30 concentrations, but the rest of the planets won't. Consequently many planets will fail to produce sufficient resources and therefore minerals.

Apologies for not replying in a few days, work has been hectic.
As much as I love having high min concs, one of the factors of the game is working with what you are randomly given, theres a chance we have 120 germ conc start, but also the same chance we have 30... just have to live with what we get...
Regarding allies, we wont actually know who belongs to which alliance due to not knowing everyones starting locations, so I ask for someone (pref from AH) to be sent the co-ords of all the HWs on turn 1, and then split them into quadrants (the teams - of 3/4 since 12 players evenly divides nicely into both).
I do ask that those who put forward to enter this game are certain they can be of assistance to their alliance, and arent absolute beginners as to uneven the teams.
Currently I have 4 positions taken, of which will -definately- take part, and I dont require race files as of this moment due to tweaqing of game parameters once I have gathered all the players.
If you wish to join, just email me a confirmation to darkkev86 AT gmail DOT com, and i will send confirmation you have a place, then we discuss the 'nitty-gritty' business.

Extreme apologies, IRL events have left me no time to discuss more on the game, and I wont have time in the near future to host, even play in the game, so if I could have someone take over the hosting of the game, I will be happy to forward all the email addresses of interested parties so you guys can enjoy this game and get it started.
Once again, many apologies, but the game should go ahead (as long as someone wishes to take hosting responsibilities).

One more tip worth mentioning:
13) Remember to choose RS. This is important for a game like this as you get to use high end shields immediately after the 100 year gen.

Quote: | Could we get a private forum for discussing initiall game settings? Like: not everybody would like to be in huge uni. IMO large dense or medium packed would be suficient for ~10 players
| Most certainly a valid point, but the trouble is people have already ran extensive testbeds based on a Huge packed universe.
A huge packed game with 12 players would give us "around" 79 planets each, whereas a large dense would give around 53 each and a medium packed would yield about 45 each. My reference for the figures is the following link: www.redshift.com/~bluebear/playaids.html
I did ask originally for the host to change the size of the universe to make it smaller, but it didn't seem that was going to happen and now that I've done so many testbeds I'm not really keen to redo them. A lot of other players would be in the same position I imagine.

Yep,
Me included
I have done pretty extensive testing and have honed my race to that size.
I am going to post to Mr. Stars! later this morning.

I'd probably be up for hosting "Galactic Awakening - Part Two" in a couple of months. I'd change some of the rules, though. Namely, the teams are arranged before hand, and the starting positions rearanged so they start in the same quadrant. The universe was a medium/large dense/packed. Split fleet dodge would be allowed, as there is no good way to police it, and ain't that big a deal. I'd also disallow CA, as it's nice to see what combo's others come up with.
If this sounds interesting to anyone, let me know and I'll revist this when GA - part 1 is close to finished.

Quote: | Yeah, but if you ARENT a mega-producer, it is likely your allies will cut you loose. I've had that happen in a game like this. My allies were stronger than me.... so they killed me. The only way to ensure you have a chance in this game is to be big enough your allies dont look upon your space with envious eyes.
| It would be surprising for that to happen this game. Everyone will be so busy with enemies right on the doorstep that they should be protecting an ally even if it is a bit weaker. Might be different however if you end up way behind on tech.
