I read everywhere that CA is the best PRT, and it is forbidden in many games.

Can someone give me an example of a good CA-race, and tell me how they would play with it to make it powerful and why it is so much better than other races?

I'm not going to give an example of a good CA race, but instead explain why CA is such a strong PRT. And that is simple : terraforming, the main "thing" of the CA PRT.

Terraforming costs them nothing, other races it costs 100 resources or with TT it costs them 70. Imagine a non CA race colonizing a yellow planet, as long as it's negative they can get around 100 resource in it before building factories, so it will take several years to get the planet into the green (either build factories first or start terra immediately depending on other things), during that time the planet contributes nothing. For a CA that planet is an instant green at no cost.
And as soon as the next terra level has been researched it is applied to all planets.
CA is saving 10.000s of resources that other races are spending on terra, and their yellows come online the very turn they colonize them. CA can spend resources elsewhere and it gains a lot of speed.

Another thing are their orbital adjusters, a very powerful diplomacy tool. It gives them the power to make other races semi-CA.
But also a very powerful offensive weapon!! With enough OAs they can turn enemy planets red (if the CA has enough terra levels), that means the pop starts dieing of overcrowding but even better: defenses operated are reduced to only 10 and that means bombs get much more effective. So a CA can use bombers that only kill the pop and leave installations intact (they don't have to destroy the defenses). Or they can use a packet to kill the pop. A CA is about the only race (next to IS) that can be a true "planet eater". Move OAs in orbit, bomb/packet, bring in own cols and the planet is fully operational in 2 turns, terra is completed as soon as the colonists touch the ground and installations are all still intact, an instant production world. And the CA moves on to the next ... and the next ...

Another thing: a CA that takes TT can make it's hab smaller since it immediately starts with some terra levels, ...

In addition, some of the few narrow hab PRT designs that can compete well against a CA in early resources and tech, are also the most vulnerable to this type of attack.

...and taking a smaller hab cheapens the cost of growth rates, IIRC. Effectively giving the CA more RP's. The only negative to the PRT, is that you really need to take Bio cheap for "borg" effect. However, it is not a big enough offset.

That being said...One downside to playing the CA, is many players plan on killing them at their earliest convience. It is also the one race that creates coalitions against them, just because they are what they are, and doesn't matter how well they are doing. Smile

Go for it then. After you'll learn the ropes you'll probably stop playing CA, as I did. It's just too easy (and boring) to win with it, and you just can't brag with those victories:
"I've won two games!"
"What race?"
"HG CA with TT."
"You call that victory?! Bah!"
