Well, I couldn't generate enough interest in a primitive game so, here's a new one.
Game Parameters
Large dense universe
Acc BBS
Distant player positions
Galaxy Clumping OFF
Max minerals OFF
Random Events ON
All PRT's allowed
Game is played on AH 5 days per week M-F
Large, dense universe
The game will jump start at 2 year gens for the first 30 years (15 turns) - then go to standard 1 year turn gens.
Restrictions:
Maximum hab range:
CA - 1 in 35 planets - No TT
HE - 1 in 12 planets
Al others - 1 in 25 planets
Other restrictions:
All races except CA need a minimum of 100 resource points left over - set to defenses. CA must have 150 points left over.
JOAT may not have NAS
Host is playing - Iztok has volunteered to verify races.
E-mail to whsmith at welho dot com
The game will start with a minimum of 10 players.
The game will go straight to AH once the game is created.
All skill levels welcome - all cheats not allowed
(chaff is not a cheat)
Standard disclaimers of liability - etc. etc. etc.
Winner by annihilation or subjugation of all others.

All players should send me the password protected racefiles. I will zip them and send them to Iztok. I will then send everyone a mail informing them to send Iztok their password so he can check the files. When I receive the go ahead from Iztok, I will gen the game and send the files to Ron so he can set the game up on AH for us.

Actually, IT won't have all that much of an advantage. I once played an IT in a game similar to this. With the slim hab range, liveable planets will be far enough away - even an IT will have to travel a few years to get to them until it gets a gate up.
Besides, I didn't nerf the JOAT much - just the NAS prohibition since JOAT has too many points available otherwise. It's just a reasonable handicapping.

For the max hab range, do you mean to say players can not have a better hab then 1 in 25?

Exactly. No player may have better than 1 in 25 planets as the hab range in the race wizard. 1 in 35 for CA and 1 in 12 for HE.

I am not sure if I got you....
what i meant was can you have a hab like (1 in 5) or (1 in 24)?
I realize "better" can be taken both ways. I should have been more clear earlier.

You can not have 1 in 5, you can not have 1 in 24. 1 in 25 is the target (or worse - like 1 in 46 - your choice).

I am interested.
But i have not played such hab settings before, so i have some questions
1.What was the aim behind such hab setting in the game
2.How is the game different from a normal game
3.What should i keep in mind when i design a race
4.Do econ PRTs have an advantage in this game

There are a number of objectives for using settings like ths:
1. It's something different than the norm
2. It makes the game dynamics different since nobody has very many planets and they are generally farther apart. Space travel generally takes some time. You need to 'think ahead' a little more.
3. Using these hab settings allows PRT's to compete more equally therefore, every PRT is viable.
4. With all the resource points gained by the hab setting, there are many more options available for race design.
5. Any given race hab range is quite unlikely to to be really useable by anyone else. Taking over planets takes on a whole new dimension.
6. With fewer planets, MM will be much less time consuming. Players will tend to stick around and not drop out (hopefully), unless almost dead of course
PRT's I'd consider for someone less experienced would be IT - for obvious reasons. SS is likely to do well also - not having ships visible is going to be a large bonus. WM will do well if they can buy some minelayers somewhere. CA will be less viable and on more of an equal footing though it will have more points available. HE - this is an open question since HE doesn't have gates, however, it will have twice the available planets. SD will still work well but will have a large area to deal with. PP is actually viable and high speed mass drivers are able to truly come into play. IS will be playable as IS always is - even low reds can be used to hold minimum 50-55k populations. AR may be less viable in this game but is certainly playable.
Basically, all races will need to be HP's I'd expect. -f races would do very poorly since they have the same planet limits. Econ will be very important. I'd be looking to design a race with as many potential resources per planet as possible.

I will start this game as soon as I have enough players - sorry Wizard, but I seriously expect that will be before March.
Currently, I have 3 players plus myself. With 5 or 6 more the game will start.

You should submit your race fairly soon. I have not put a deadline for race submission, but, as soon as I have 10 race files I will start the game. Currently, I have 5 players (including me). You would be the 6th and another player has also expressed interest. Open slots will fill up quickly I think. I would recommend you try to get the race file in within the next couple days - you can always send a modified one before the game gens.

Actually, AR and PP should be quite powerful.
The only races that will be at any disadvantage will be WM and CA. WM is weak in any universe larger than a small, in my experience. WM simply does not have defenses capable of sustaining an assault. Also distance between planets will create problems for WM as well as HE, as they will need to rely on engines for their movement. You can only overgate a DN so many times.
The most powerful PRTs will be IS and IT w/ this design w/ both JoaT and CA being nerfed. (CA more than joat, but Joat has fewer advantages to begin with. the free pen scans *are* joat's bonus feature, IMO).
It *is* definitely good that SS,PP,and AR are given a chance in this game. SD will be average, IMO. No real benefits or disadvantages. Difficult to take full advantage of its mine laying abilities in a universe this large. The settigns of this game actually benefit AR rather nicely w/ exception of no immunities.

What do you think Ptolmey? What are your thoughts on these *weak races?
Also is the universe size fixed to "Large"
I want to book a slot also. Count me in!!
