I'm not sure what to do... I've been playing Stars! 1.7 since about 2000 or 2001 (though not much multiplayer). I've had this awesomely huge galaxy saved for the last year and I just now have found time to get back to it. So I loaded up the game, and on my very first Generate, I get this stupid message that says my fleet refuses to move because they doubt my authority to rule. Then it tells me to enter my UNIQUE Stars! serial. So I dig around the desk and find my serial that I wrote down on a sticky note and enter it. It accepts fine, though no confirmation, so I think everything fine. I generate another year and BAM, same thing. What is going on here? This is the exact same serial I've been using for the past 3 or 4 years. The PC is also the exact same (nothing has changed on it) as it was as well. I also cannot find any contact officially to get the problem resolved. Does anyone have any insight for me as to what this means and what I can do to fix it?

Thanks!

1.7? Isn't that a little behind with the times? We have 2.7 now =P If you are in fact using 2.7 now, but used to be using 1.7, its possible that your old key isn't recognized by the old version. Unlikely, but it could happen. Either that, or you've always been using a "leaked" cd key which was flagged as invalid in later versions of the game.

Oops. Case of the fat fingers. I am, in fact, on 2.7 (2.70j to be exact). So what does it mean if my serial was "leaked"? What can I do to reauthenticate it? I started on version 2.6 I think and then got the latest patch... way back in the day. The key has always worked up until now.

Oh, I just had a thought. Could it be because that computer no longer has access to the internet? How is the serial authenticated exactly? This is really frustrating. Maybe I'll just pay the $19.99 again for another serial and end this frustration.

The only time I have ever seen the serial number message show up is when I have re-installed the game or installed it on a different computer. Make sure you are using capitol letters when you enter your serial number - the serial number is case sensitive.

Though we often ask how and why, we must also do to get the answers to the questions.

I'd suggest deleting your stars.ini file in the Windows directory. I don't know the cause of your problem, so this is just a guess...

Did you get the version from AH? 2.7 jRC3? (Release Candidate)
IIRC starting from jRC2 several serials got banned. Hacked serials that you can find on the net, but also some legal serials got banned. Looks like yours is one of those ...
Nothing you can do except play with an older version if you only want to play against the AI, or buy a new one if you want to play against humans ...

Well, I e-mailed the contact for the Xplosiv site I bought from (luckily I still have the reciept). They verified my serial as legit and reissued me another one. All seems well.

Thanks!

Hi Keshav,
rush off a mail to cssales at empire.co.uk, they should promptly reply. We just did so last month and they replied with all the needed details. The easiest way to buy it would be with a credit card but i am not sure if they accept Indian credit cards. And also, they have a problem with shipping to an address that is not the billing address of the credit card so you cannot use some elses card and have it shipped to your address. What we did was send them a money order and have it shippied to one of our friends in the UK. Shipping to anywhere in the UK is free. As soon as our friend gets the package they should just send us the serials. Smile
Hope you get it Smile
