The point of this game is to have an fair melee, with equal ship numbers and no distractions. Basically, after a certain amount of time, every player is asked to send a fleet of number of ships (25 i am thinking) to the borders of a void area, where they must fight it out in the arena, last ship standing wins.
What do you think?

I think this thread will get moved to the Bar (as only idea).
I think you need to refine idea more and give incentives to actually fight (rather than run away to keep own ships undamaged).
Not sure if you will find enough interest even if you get a solid set of incentives/rules. Similar has been proposed before without growing into a game.

Now you need to figure out what is gained from controlling that centre planet. If it is last man standing, everyone will be sitting around waiting for others to fight for the planet unless by fighting or taking the planet one might become stronger rather than weaker, or closer to victory.

Moved to Bar since this is a discussion of a game concept and not an actual game announcement.

Hmmm...
I've been thinking of an idea similar to this "Arena". The big difference is that there are NO planets involved at all once play starts. Each player has a communal race played for them by the host until they have researched to a certain level of tech. Then the host builds a predetermined number of missile BB, beamer BBs, chaff, interceptors, minelayers, scouts, etc. for each player.
Once the researching and building is done, the host loads all pop into freighters and play starts. Victory conditions are to be the only player left with freighters.
The communal race design, tech era and number of ships would either be preset by the host or decided by the players beforehand.

If you worked out details you could probably have a zip file prepped. Races already run up to the proper tech levels, and planets developed to the point that they generate "X" resources per year and have "Y" minerals.
Then the players have a set time period to build a fleet and enter the battle arena (3rd party Nube fleet comes and seizes the orbit.)
VCs set by kills/survival/whatever. Duration would vary by run and the set-up should be reusable under different conditions. You just have to pick a proper mix of starting PRT/LRT combinations that would appeal well.

well, the point of the arena is to have no planetary distraction, i.e empty space. One or two planets where introduced to the concept as goals to stop people just hanging around waiting for something to happen, but your idea just sounds like a standard central objective flag race.
