EDog, please confirm my understanding or lack of it.
Players are restricted to ingame messages only in discussing the game.
Real life messaging (ie Email) is disallowed.

For the record, if this restriction is in place, then we really need to have everyone sign on board. It does create an interesting twist to the game but does make alliances (NAPS) more difficult to negotiate Confused

Please restrict any negotiation/diplomacy or other communication to in-game messaging. This fits with the original game concept that energy waves prevent communication except once every five years.

IMO the email restriction is a bad idea. Why? Because you have no way of enforcing it or verifying it. Therefore, you are penalizing those players who abide by the rules and rewarding those who don't follow the rules. Any sneaky Pete's would gain unfair advantage, which is beyond your ability to monitor or control. You should not make rules that you cannot enforce in order to keep a fair balance in the game.

I think your comment is true, but you do need to take the risk by sending a mail to another player that may expose your dealings. What I do not like about it is it takes a lot of fun away from the diplomacy side of the game. Yes you can do the wheeling and dealing but 10 yrs to get a reply is long. And thus makes the effort huge.

I would prefer removing the restriction but willing to keep it as it is. Not that EDog gave us the option Razz

One of the things I've discovered in my many years as a Stars player and host is that there are numerous rules that cannot be enforced. Even certain cheats can be very difficult to detect. The bottom line is that I can't monitor everything (boy, sure would be neat if I could, though...), and have to believe that MOST players are generally honest and will abide by special conditions that are set. Maybe it's a pipe dream and everyone is cheating me blind, but I don't think so. My experience has shown me that most Stars players are good people and enjoy the game for the sake of the game, and won't cheat to win. I have a lot of fun playing with and against people like that, and losing is almost as much fun as winning (especially when you can be a difficult b@$+@rd to wipe out completely!).

I can't monitor anybody's email, but if you are really enjoying the game and believe in the spirit of the special conditions as outlaid at the start, you'll stick to the rules. I know I have, and I've found that it does make diplomacy trickier, and I find I'm using it more than I do in a normal game. Pretty cool, if you ask me. I'll host a Careful Wars II, and III if there's enough interest. I know I'll continue to play in them, because it's a real challenge and it's different enough to stay interesting.

Hope you're having as much fun with this one as I am...

2450 yes, no, yes, no, no
I think we should increase the planets there and there
2455 I decided not to do that yet
I decided to end that
2460 I don't want that no more unless you do this
2465 If you go to A and I go to B and then every other year we switch to C with backups following B and A in alternate years we should gain lots of tech, We do the same for D and E only in reverse, and F and G will be ready when you get to F,I know it works, I tried it in testbed....
Yes, yes, no, yes, maybe, I don't know
2470 So what happened at F and G? It didn't go that well? Did you go to E instead of G? I am reversing instructions, hope you second guess my logical moves
2475 You're getting more than me, so I am going to end that immediately without waiting for your response
I don't know what you intend when I do this so I will do that and wait and see what you will do about this before I do that.
Yes, no, no, maybe

I think these 5 year communications are having their effective intended victims. Or is it the damage caused by the shockwaves from all the mine explosions?
Or maybe some races elevators just don't go all the way to the top floor?
Frankly, it's getting damn hard to be careful anymore.
Very Happy
