I like smileys. And they like me. I have never been offended by nor offended a smiley.
Some people hate smileys. On a musician's forum one person accused me of using "snide" smileys all the time. I used mostly to try to convey joking or happy mood. Yet this guy was offended. Go figure. Some users on that forum refuse to use smileys for some philosophical reason. They instead use the old style like <BG> or <VBG> types.
I am about to give up on smileys. I think if I want to express humorous intent I am just going to start posting links to .wav or .mp3 files on that forum.

I apparently am flunking all courses in Starfleet Academy and must be getting performance evaluations in the range of 1.0 instead of 4.0 since I've been a cadet forever . I'd be better off going back to warrant officer ranks - at least I'd have the respect and adoration of the lowly enlisted class .

Ah well - eventually I may reach the lowly rank of ensign - whereupon most officers shall be able to look down upon me. However, perhaps someday I may aspire to the rank of junior grade lieutenant before I die - if Stars is around that long - or I am.
