Will it be possible to pick and select individual random events? I like wormholes in a game but not MT.

We havn't worked on random events yet, but yes you should be able to have much more control over them.

Now that would open some interesting aspects for role playing games! The host could say: hm, this year I want a comet strike on Earth (finally getting rid of those pesky dinosaurs!). Smile Or on each HW, or heck on all planets! Twisted Evil

Or insert some new random events, like ... computer crashes? Evil or Very Mad

Actually, having a larger list of random events, that could either be chosen by the host (obviously only a non-playing host in this case) or simply selected randomly could be quite a bit of fun. There could be quite a few more varieties, both beneficial and maleficient. Even if the host cannot select specifics, he could possibly choose frequency levels of random events. Suppose they could be selected in a range:

1-3 events per 1-3 years
1-3 events per 4-6 years
1-3 events per 7-10 years

Or something to that effect. This way the host could select how much of a Random Events game he wants.

I have some ideas for new events. Bad events are listed on the Uncle Nasty table; good events are listed on the Uncle Buddy table (because everybody's got uncles like these!).

Uncle Nasty
-Nova. Any/all fleets and orbital installations are destroyed; ground installations unaffected (single system)
-Plague. Population growth rate stalls for one year (single system or possibly empire-wide).
-Space Pirates. Random destruction of unarmed vessels in transit.
-Revolution. Ground installations destroyed (Factories, Mines, Defenses); orbitals and fleets unaffected (single system).
-Space Storm. All ships slowed to W4 (could be devastating for a timed attack).
-Invaders from the 12th Dimension. One planet is wiped clean of all inhabitants; surface minerals and installations remain intact for one year.

Uncle Buddy
-Breakthrough. A single-level tech increase for free (this is different from finding artifacts).
-Efficiency Experts. A single world's resource output is doubled for one year.
-Powerball. Any items in a single world's production queue are advanced to 95% completion.
-Superfuel. For one year, all vessels are accelerated to W10 without burning additional fuel.
-Aphrodesiac. For one year, population growth rates are doubled (single system or possibly empire-wide).
-Architects. For one year, construction rates for installations are doubled (single world).

In addition to these ideas, I was thinking about some more random events that traverse open space. These can be good, bad, or just interesting.

-Doomsday Device. This is a vessel that moves from system to system, consuming all vessels, population, installations, and minerals. It travels at speeds varying between W4 and W8. Like the MT, it cannot be destroyed.
-Black Hole. A black hole traverses the universe in a straight line or parabola. It pulls ships within a certain range toward it at W6. Ships that cannot escape are destroyed. This affects vessel courses in its vicinity.
-Space Artifact. These are completed bits of MT technology that are tumbling haphazardly through the universe. If one is intercepted, it may be used on a single ship (it would be like getting the MT Lifeboat or MT scout, but with flexibility allowing you to put it on a ship of your own design).
-Dust Cloud. This is a drifting field like a minefield that acts as a combination Speed Trap and Heavy Minefield. SD can not travel it faster or more safely than other races.
-Planetary-Mass Wormhole. This wormhole cannot be traversed by vessels. If it passes over a system, that system is transported to the other end of the PMW.
-Mystery Warrior. This is like a Mystery Trader, but will fight for you as long as you keep supplying minerals. Say, 5000kT per turn or he continues on his way. The MW's vessel is not described, but should be like a mobile Death Star with unfathomable tech.

Whaddya think of these ideas?

In RL, a Nova will destroy all life and installations an any habitable planet in the system.

Uncle Nasty

Some of these you can do already in this version by re-submitting the players turn with an illegal serial. Twisted Evil Game anyone? Wink

dust clouds is a good idea, there shuld b dust clouds of different colours... some can heal your ships, some can damage your ships, and sum does nothing.

waht about planets turning independant? (lyk AAT)

spies and dignitaries working on the planet (AAT)

and what about discovering an abandoned ship (host can create ships out of thin air anywhere he wants. (role playing purposes)) [loooks more like an option for a map editor]

Simple thing to do if the host triggers a 'random' event as opposed to it happening, well, randomly.

"God made a comet strike X"
as opposed to "A comet struck X".

Stuff like that.

If it's obvious the host triggered it, that rather resolves the cheating issue.
