Here's a thought for a new game:
Universe setup-TBD based on interest BUT will be medium or large universe.
Solo victory determined by first to reach VP total.
No PRT's Banned.
No alliance wins.
Chaffe and split fleet allowed, all else banned.
First turn will be four year gen followed by 2 year gens until 2420.
Game on Autohost.
Players must give host password.
VP's are awarded for invading specified worlds. Points are awarded according to strength of the target world. To get the points you must have your own colonists on the ground.
Major World 20pts. >=90% defenses, >=90% pop
Secondary World 15pts. >=75% defenses, >=50% pop
Tertiary World 10pts. >=50% defenses, >=33% pop
Small World 5pts. <50% defenses, <33% pop
Tiny world 2pts. <33% defenses, <25% pop
World will be categorized according to best fit. I.e. a world with 90% or more pop but no defenses would be treated as a Tiny for scoring purposes. The host of the game will determine the value of a target at the time of announcement. If the target changes over time, you will not get more points, only the original points determined.
Now for the fun part: Starting in 2450 all colonized worlds will be placed in a pool and a VP target will be drawn at random. Next year another world will be chosen at random however the player chosen the year before will have their worlds withdrawn from the pool for #ofplayers/2 years (rounded up). Targets will remain VP targets for ten years at which time they will drop off the list and be replaced by a new world. Hence the world chosen in 2450 must be invaded by 2460 or no points will be awarded. By removing players from the pool this spreads the targets around yet still weights them more towards the players with the most planets.
The current target list and the associated points will be sent each year via in-game message.
First person to 150 points wins.
Host will be playing a 1WW SS race which must be set to friend for the duration. The host race cannot be attacked and is there for observation purposes only (to determine if indeed the VP conditions have been met)
Thoughts?

The purpose behind having passwords is primarily as a backup plan. Using the forums here I suppose one could forego the observer race and post a list in the private forum of targets.
However, having an observor race is a bunch more convenient than having to download and open a bunch of passworded game files.
The observer race will not significantly change any distributions if there are enough players. Four or five players in medium might find that the host race does create a backyard for players, however given that the host can regenerate the galaxy multiple times you can always just gen a galaxy that puts the starting race near the middle thereby avoiding the back yard problem one might create if the race started in a corner.
