I tried putting the race settings in the race wizard, but wound up 24 points to the negative. Am I missing something or is there a typo?

Hmm.
And it doesn't have ISB.

Having played a -f JoaT I'd suggest narrowing the hab.
1/3 with an immunity is excessive.
Perhaps
Temp -88 to 88
Rad 52 to 88 (or whatever is needed to get the ISB and pay the 24 points)

Of course I had cheaper tech as well, but fewer mines.
But that is just down to taste.

Just my my 2 cents

ISB is much less important given IFE, but really depends on Universe definition. If the universe if dense/packed AND medium or smaller, then no need for ISB. If the universe is larger and/or sparser then ISB becomes more of a necessity, IMO.

How about this JoaT:

IFE/NRSE
OBRM
NAS

Grav Immune
Temp -104 - 88
Rad 43 - 87 (Right shifted)
1/4 overall

18% Growth

1/1000
5/25/5 Facts
12/3/15 Mines

Weap/Con cheap
Ener/Elec norm
Prop/Bio exp

Leaves zero AP.

ISB is not for rapid expansion and hence has little to do with density or IFE. It is for building ships at every planet. This is a -f race. You need to build ships at every planet.

...12/3/15 Mines

Those mines are almost too good even for a HG. You'll never use all mined minerals with a -f.

Cool, thank you for the information. Obviously -f races are not my forte.

I absolutely positively hate having to deal with being mineral bound and so tend to exceed the conventional mining capability in my race designs. Given my new understanding of the need for ISB with a -f race I suppose I would reduce the mine settings to free some points for ISB.

As a quick example, the last game I played I used the mineral settings of 15/15/5 for my -f. I never built more than 5 mines/turn on a planet, unless it was spectacular in *all* minerals (or one I needed really bad). A tad extreme, but was very enlightening as to what a -f needs for mineral settings. When the game ended I was still gaining more metal than I could use and had nearly 1 MKt of each.

Personally, I would rather go with a 12-13/6/5 on a -f. The cost isn't super painful, and you pay for most of the eff via the # of mines. Just so you understand the implications, though, you need to figure out how much metal you need according too your goals. If we are talking a small or medium game, I would go no worse than a 10-12/4/8, as you will need metal for the early game. For the larger universes, you will have more time to accumulate minerals, and hence the cost of eff is somewhat defrayed by the decrease in operable mines.

ooops...

Rad should be 36 to 86

Race was designed by a friend who does play stars.

This race is not to handicap you, but to bring our the best of your playing. There is no perfect race designn only a perfect style of play.

I'll ask him if he'll redo it and add ISB. We're looking at a medium with more than 12 players.
