A beginners tournament is very hard idea to implement... at least by utilizing the series concept.
By definition, a beginner is less experienced with net-play, and less experienced with race design than intermediates.
That is OK, everyone starts out as a beginner, but the players need to get experience under their belt before they are able to play in the scenarios defined effectively.
Even the tournament running, the players complain about the slowness of spars!.... you really cannot have an idea about that universe until you see it.
And the random races: 128 races were generated, 16 were chosen as best, and one the better races is comparable to "humanoid" the default race, but slightly worse... its also going to be a slow game, even though its set in a standard medium.
These games are really a test of the players stamina, and their ability to work under extreme circumstances.
It was a good try forceuser, but maybe some standard ranked beginner games would be a wiser approach
