This one would be for all those anti-MM guys out there.

Processing time for each turn would be stricly limited to 30 minutes. Twisted Evil

This would be done by using a customised script for hosting the game (implying the game could not be hosted on AH Sad )

Game would have normal delays between gens (24/48 hour gens)

Before a player could download their game.m? file they would be required to input a password to the site. After entering the password they would then have exactly 30 minutes to upload their game.x? file, after which time uploads would be blocked.

Interesting? Sherlock

The main drawback is that it would take a lot of work to set up. There is also a risk that occaisionally a player might miss a turn due to connectivity issues (although if they are able to download the file, then they will probably still have connectivity 30 minutes later, but still...)

And the risk that suddenly wife, child, friend, boss, .. appears and you lose important 5 minutes, until they understand you realy do not have time now.

Slow internet access could cost you further 5 minutes and then you miss uploading by 1 minute because it took 22 minutes to download and play turn.

Conceptually, I think what you are talking about is called a blitz, if you set gen time in autohost on one hour... thats what you've got... however, I get the difference as well, only 1/2 hour to make your move... like hitting the clock in a game of chess... Wink

Unlike blitz you still have 24 hours between turns for conducting diplomacy, RL etc. Surprised

But like blitz, when you are making your move you are in a heck of a hurry. Twisted Evil

The key is that you only have 30 minutes to make your move, but there is still only 1 per day. Cool

This tones way down on the MM emphasis of Stars, while permitting usual diplomacy. Encourages strategy over tactics and encourages efficiency of action.

Can encourage arcade skills like in a real time game. The one who can click the fastest has an advantage.

That's exactly the reason why I'm not good at those games. My coordination just isn't good enough to compete with those blitz-clickers. But when I have time to sit down and think for a while ... Twisted Evil

That's true, to a certain extent.

I think by reducing MM (by setting repeat orders etc.) then the speed of clicking becomes a little less relevant. I think more important is the ability to be able to evaluate the shifting tactical situation and select appropriate responses rapidly.

IMHO the MM click-psycho will get a lot more done, but if he doesn't remember to take time out to evaluate the situation he will still be defeated by the strategist.


On a side note, it'd be interesting to see what sort of races showed up. Sherlock
