How about just a current help file? When I used to play Stars, I think the help file was updated with each patch, but I'm not sure.

I quit playing Stars and went to Everquest where I could roleplay to my hearts content. Years later, looking for some strategic depth I've returned, reinstalled the game on my new machine and applied the most current patch; SURPRISE! No help file access. Huh? Shocked

OK, I find the v2.6b help file download on the Stars Autohost archives (thanks Ron!) and it helps a little, but it's awfully dated, some of the concepts (like fuel mass) just don't even apply anymore, which leaves serious doubts about the rest of the content. Any suggestions, anyone?

Works for me. Press F1 when the game's on top and running. I have 2.70JRC3 as my main Stars! version. IT pop up with the Player's Guide its not the manual but its close. (aw they so cute and tiny those little stars! versions dey only take up a couple megabytes on my 20 and 40 Gigabyte Hard drives.) My manual, I might add, has numerous typos and word errors, as well as all the tables in the back of the book being completely screwed. The antimatter torpedo is listed, in not one, but get this, TWO different summary charts, one of which isn't meant for missiles, but only has them. It's sad.

Use the 2.7i help file found in the download section on AutoHost.
ftp://library.southern.edu/e27ihelp.exe
It may complain about a missing .dll file when you try to use it, and another error message, but just ignore both.

Gible nicely provided me with the PDF file. If anyone else would like a copy I'll e-mail it to anyone who wants it... and anyone who can accept e-mail of just over 3 meg. If you can't then I have some webspace that you could download from - it'd be slow as hell but possible.

Just let me know if you're interested.

Well poo... yet another geocities policy I don't like.

The problem is explained here
.(which may have the same problem)
If you copy and paste the url to the IE(or other) address bar it should work...does for me...also from textpad.

the rar program, and since the first of January they have an upgraded version for download.
You might want to try the zip file download again, if you haven't already.

Perhaps telling what error message you received would be helpful. If you are having pdf problem, or rar problem, or what error?
If people are having rar problems, perhaps a zipped version of file would be more useful to some? The size is not very much larger when zipped, a couple hundred k, I believe.
