And how do you share it?
I have seen people in posts refering to sharing thier 'scan data', through the files of Stars or something like that...
What is scan data? What files is it in? How do you share it?

Another thing you can do is maximize your view of the universe then take a snapshot of the screen. Then, load it into any graphics program (Windows paintbrush will work) and add additional info that you want to have (like fleet id's). Send the graphic along with the reports files (fleet and planet) to your ally. Make sure you have edited your Stars.ini file in the Windows directory to add the entry 'NewReports=1' under the 'Misc' heading before opening Stars! and generating the reports. Once your have dumped the fleet and planet reports, you can import them into excel (or any spreadsheet program) for easy editing if you want to remove info (like your own planet populations).
This does involve some work and many players simply share passwords if they intend to be allied for the duration of the game - it's easier.
Incidently, fleets in space data is not contained in the .h files - they are only seen in the current turn by your scanners (wherever they are). Fleets in space are contained in the .m files.
Simply using the planet report provides all the info that is in the .h file.

Exchanging .h files may work. I just tried a test though from a game that is over where my ally and I were sharing passwords and my scan data appears to be the same no matter what .h file I use. However, this may be because these are late game files and the actual scan that will appear is the scan data that you currently have available from your ships and planetary scanners. I will try a new test with 3 seperate races in a game set-up and see what happens but, I suspect that current scan data overrides .h file data OR, the .h file is simply ignored as not valid.

Crusader's post was right on target. I wanted a planet report from another player so I could find habitable planets without having to re-scan the universe.
