Welcome to the private forum for It's The Economy, Stupid!

Victory conditions are as follows:

-750,000 resources, may be divided between up to four players
-Tech 26 in all categories (also may be divided)
-Possession of at least 6 discrete MT toys (also may be divided)

No team may have duplication of PRTs, and no team can have more than 4 players.

Chaff and Split Fleet Dodge are permitted. All other cheats are banned.

Failure to submit three consecutive turns will result in your being placed as "Inactive" and I will search for a replacement for you. If you are having problems making your turn deadline, let me know and I may be able to delay gens.

I will not regenerate turns (again! Embarassed ).

Changing your race password without notifying donjon (whom I will ask to verify occasionally) is grounds for immedate banishment from the game.

This is a RANKED game under the definition listed under the Rankings Forum. All players begin at Low Intermediate.

Good luck, and contact me at bigEDog AT prodigy DOT net if you have questions!

Can we clarify the nature of "teams" a bit ?

Is there a limit on the number of players I can have set to "friend" or tech trade with, for example ?

At what point are teams defined for victory purposes ? For example, can the top 4 players suddenly decide to stop fighting each other and declare themselves a team (and winners) ?

Or do the teams have to annouce themselves at some point ?

I'm ruling the following:

You can set your teammates to friends. Other races must be neutral or enemy. You may tech trade with neutrals or enemies using wolf/lamb or popdropping (but why would you want to support someone not on your team?).

I'm not going to require players to stick with their teams indefinitely (or even to be on a team). The scenario you outlined above I would consider poor sportsmanship. Switching teams should be a strategic decision. Also, consider the possibility that there may be duplication of PRTs in the top four teams. I see the most likely victory scenario will be involving a team of four (or three) that has been working together the longest and has had the best communication.

A couple of more questions:
1) Is it allowed to switch teams every second turn if that helps you to use more than 3 other players stargates?
2) Is it allowed to form overlapping teams so that none of the single teams have more than 4 players?
3) If I use a startage from player X, it clearly means that player X thinks I am in his team. But, by using his stargate do I also confirm that player X is in my team?
(I.e. I cannot prevent someone _wanting_ to be in my team by setting me as friend? But, am I allowed to use his stargates if I don't think he is in my team?)

Man, this is like interpreting contracts!

Okay, here are my rulings:
1) Switching teams frequently to allow alliances with more than 3 other players goes against my previous rulings of no more than 4 members per team. To utilize another race's stargate requires you to have that race set as "Friend". Therefore, you may only use stargates of your teammates.

2) I will define a team as a group where ALL members are allied with, and only with, each other. You may maintain treaties with non-teammates as you see fit, so long as you have ONLY your teammates set to "Friend" status. For victory purposes, only those who meet this description can claim a victory and move up in player rankings.

3) By using another race's stargate or him using yours, you confirm that each of you have set the other race to "Friend" and are therefore on the same team.

Wik: To summarize, if you set someone to "Friend", it should be mutual and therefore you are part of a team.

Also wik: You cannot use stargates of races not on your team. Nor can they use yours.

Also also wik: I'm trying hard to be fair in these rulings, the issues of which seem to target one race in particular in this game. I have no wish to handicap someone in strategic planning for short- and long-term, but I also don't want to see anyone working loopholes either. If I do, I will try to close them. Can't we all just get along? Wink

OK, I'm going to have to respond to this.

The way the rules have been clarified since the game began are designed, naturally, to fit the kind of game that the host presumably wanted to see: three well defined teams slugging it out.

I have no problem with this kind of game in general, though if you want to avoid a shifting political landscape then I'd suggest it is better to go for pre-arranged teams.

The problem I have is that this is being imposed during the game. For ITES, the way I designed my race and my whole game strategy make it a really tough one for me. I have always wanted to be friends with everybody as long as possible. Normally this is fine, but in this game, after I was already well into building relationships, we were told that it wasn't allowed.

My immediate reaction was to query the ruling with the host, which I did via private email because doing it publically could have compromised the relationships I was building at the time. During that conversation I was told that it is OK to have non-team mates set to friend as long as your team mates agree to it. This, to me, seemed a very sensible position.

Now it seems I'm being told that I'm working a loophole.

I have always understood and been more than happy with the "Only 1 team can win", "max 4 to a team" and "no duplicate PRT" rules. There is nothing in that to prevent me from keeping as many options open as long as possible. There is in the current rulings; I am effectively being told to make all my choices right now and to stick with it whatever happens.

Obviously I'm going to abide by whatever the host rules, but I have to go on record to say I'm not happy about it, and I think that I'm going to enjoy the rest of the game less because of it.

I wish we could, but the rules clarifications seem to be designed prevent it. Smile

And yet, my dear EDog, I notice that the 255, an AR race, has acquired scouting frigates with SS components on them, which implies that at some point in time the two had set each other to "friend" against your rulings; and back in the year 2462 I did receive some weapons scrappers named "headache", from the Staznagorians of all people, which you seem to have flying all around your space with reckless abandon. It would appear that these rulings, in my mind, are totally without merit in the eyes of either yourself or others.

What is going on, my friend? Confused

The only settings that prevent someone from RECEIVING ships from someone else is when the RECEIVER has set the other player ENEMY.

I.e. when both are Neutral, they can give ships freely to each others. When the one who gives ships have set the other to enemy, he can still give the ships to an enemy. Accidents happen easily if people don't realize this. Most often this accident happens so that you give ships to the first player in the receiver list - guess who is it in ITES:)

My mistake. I was under the impression that only "friends" could transfer fleets successfully, however I just successfully transferred a fleet between neutrals in a testbed. So I can see an accident happening every now and then.

Nothing for now.
