Hi,
This is just an idea, I couldn't possibly take something else on my plate right now, but I thought I'd toss it out for one of the better players to consider hosting:
A remapped medium universe, the universe mapped into the shape an equilateral triangle...

1**2**3**4***5**6**7**8
Eight beginner-intermediate playing players.
(of course the host plays as well, and can colonize and protect his area as he/she sees fit.
The object of the game is to take out the host and colonize his homeworld. The player who colonizes the homeworld is then the winner.
Thoughts?

Well, personally I would think that this game falls into the category of the host being an obstacle which must be surmounted in order to win. (considering ranking)
I believe the host would have to be a very good player because he would not be able to make deals or promises to the other players and would need to develop his obstacle course without the aid of the other players. Except possibly, on the sly stealing of tech at wolf/sheep trade sites etc. ; and of course tech gain from pop-dropping poor unsuspecting players.
However, the universe design favours the host, in the beginning for development, and later favours the top-dog in the players.
But, of course, its only an idea... if a host was to pick up on it (and that is why I posted it here) then they can make the rules as they see fit, and then play it.

The "AFON" series have all been an alliance of players vs. a "bad guy" with a head start. And it was a single AR race in AFON(1) and AFON2.
This sounds a bit less "organized" than the AFON games were, which might be a good thing. Depending on what advantages the "top dog"/host gets to make it interesting.
