Hi there. I don't have internet at home, so I just copied my stars-files to this computer at my university.
Naturally, I was asked for my serial and supplied it.
So long, so go good. Everything worked fine.
Then I downloaded the j patch and placed it in the same directory. When I ran that one (starsjrc4.exe), I was asked for the serial again, and I supplied it. However, next time I started stars, it asked for it again, and even though it accepts my serial at startup, I get "Your population suspects you are a usurper"-messages. However, I can still run the i-version. (stars!.exe) What is the problem?

The J patch blocks pirated serial numbers.

The game authors searched the 'net for pirated serial numbers when they were making the J patch, and blocked them from being used.

There was a newer serial number posted on the newsgroup several years ago that does work with J, but I've blocked its use in games hosted on Stars! AutoHost.

Old in this case means mature. It is well tested, nearly all the bugs are known, and the comunnity of players is filled with a nice mix of mature players with a wide range of experience.

Personally I purchased my serial a few months back, and thought it was a fair price - old game or not.

I got a serial, disk and box all for 5 quid from Xplosiv.
I don't consider that a lot.
I just spent 20 quid going to the cinema for two.
No comparison really.
