Waypoint ship speed zero (stopped) is a useful tool for making lines on your Stars! map.
One way to keep notes of locations is to take a ship and set its waypoint to the location you wish to remember, like a recently discovered HW, or an ally's planet with a gate you wish to go to later, or a wormhole that is in scan range now, or whatever. Set the waypoint as the ships's last waypoint if there is more than one. Set the last waypoint ship speed to zero (stopped) so the ship never moves there. With your "fleet paths overlay" turned on, now you will have a line drawn to that point. You can rename the ship with a note as a reminder. You can still move about as long as you keep the zero speed waypoints in the last position. If you wish to exchange the waypoint info with a different ship then merge them and separate them, now they both have the same waypoints.
This can be a useful way to remember wormholes that often lose the location of one end or both if they move out of scan range. Set the ship to move into the wormhole at normal speed, set the next waypoint to move to current ship location "in space" at zero speed, then set the third waypoint to move back to wormhole location "in space" at zero speed. After you jump through wormhole you have a line going back to where you came from. Delete the ship location waypoint and keep the last one to remember about where wormhole was as they move slightly each turn. Now set a new waypoint to end of wormhole "in space" you just came out of. You can still move about as long as you keep the last two waypoints at zero speed to show wormhole locations. This may help you to find them if they are lost and to remember where they went in case you forgot. If you lose your ship you lose your lines (waypoints), so you may want to use a ship at one of your nearby planets set to these two waypoints to remember the wormhole ends. Important to use "in space" locations of wormhole rather than wormhole. If it disappears from scan range the "in space" location is still there.
You can even use several waypoints to make a rough drawing of a shape as a reminder. No pornographic graphics pleeze!
Anyway the point is waypoints could be a good way to point.
