If you really want some solid protection then you could build a system something like this:
1) Players register on Autohost in a seperate database. Forum ID tied to unique game ID's tied to feedback feilds.
2) Stars! creates a unique ID based on the serial# and machine ID. It may be possible to get the serial# back out of this ID. If not then just use the unique ID to create a record for given players. NOTE: Players may play on more than one machine hence Forum ID has a one to many relationship to unique ID's (unnecessary if serial# can be backed out of unique ID).
3) Feedback system similar to Ebay is implemented. I.e. if you are in a game with someone, then you can leave feedback, person can respond. You can always look up someone's feedback if they are considering joining a game with you.
4) Autohost could provide a check to hosts on unique ID's/users to see if there are multiple races being run by the same player.
Only hole is IF two people share a computer and Stars game and are playing in the same email game. While such a circumstance is plausible (dormies sharing a pc?) the number of occurences is likely to be low enough to manage on a case by case basis.
This would enable a relatively secure feedback system to be used as a reference by other players/hosts.
