Stars Calculator v3.06:

A handy tool, look there for overgating.
But it's a very rough calculation or rather: there is quite a probability factor in it which makes you sometimes loose more and sometimes less ships.

What Stars Calculator gives is the average number of ships lost, based on the probability of loosing a ship. It is possible that no ships are lost to overgating, or that all ships are lost, but those extremes are of course less likely than your loosing a number of ships near the average given by Stars Calculator. The chance of loosing a ship to the void is checked for each individual ship, so Lady Luck may smile on you, or she may take all she can take.
