Hi!

Well, you are not wrong. Later in game the "real" combat is between BBs and eventually nubs. The smaller hulls still have their roles but most of them not combat related, more sweep/counter-sweep, scanning, etc.
The "real" combat needs heavy firepower, first shot, large (shield) stacks ... All things the smaller hulls cannot provide due to smaller number of slots and lower base armor ...
