Don't forget that you get 75% of the colonization fleet back.
And gift ships drop that amount by 70%. (total return of 22.5%)
Resources still apply.

So the hull that cost 33 13 26 will return 25 10 20, for a total mineral cost of 8 3 6.

The mini-colony ship cost of 14 9 12 will return 3 2 3, for a total mineral cost of 11 7 9.

Net mineral costs are higher for the spore clouds, but the resource cost is lower. Engines are better on the spore clouds too.
