Fleet design is a very different ball game Smile

If you want to look at fleet design of Nubians (other hulls really reduce the scenarios you need to look at) then you do have to take into account the chaffe AND the cost of your beamer arm. Having more chaffe isn't necessarily a good thing against range three beamers designed to kill it since 5-6 beamer nubs can eradicate chaffe at tremendous rate. So the scenario of having lots more chaffe w/omega boats versus less chaffe w/arm boats is not necessarily a good one.

It is HIGHLY valuable to look at the resource cost of various different fleet configurations. I typically create damage/res and armor/res comparisions to try and get a sense of what options are more efficient investments. Then if I am playing against serious players I look at what the same metrics are for a counter-design fleet. I try to set up my designs such that I have three designs per fleet which serve to counter the counter-designs to a given ship design. I.e. my fast attack ship kills the counterdesign to my mainline beamer, etc.

I also don't tend to use a lot of missiles on nubians and haven't created the designs thrown around on the various threads on these forums for many many years. I tend to use the missiles for specific roles: Attacking starbases, attacking support vessels (bombers/freighters/transports) and skirmishing. My primary firepower usually comes from large stacks of beamers designed to work in concert with each other. A smaller missile contingent is used to strip bombers, etc. which means that by the time my missiles actually engage the enemies warships chaffe is gone.

To accomplish this I tend to use a max init arm nub for starbase killing and interception. Then I will use an arm or omega boat (depends on gating abilities and what my opponent has as well as my mineral situation and the enemies tech situation-->I don't use max tech weapons unless I can pretty well gaurantee my opponent won't survive a battle and gain tech if they don't have them already)
