Greetings all,

*Pulls up a chair and smiles sinisterly* A post on my SS, my favorite PRT... and I was gone for HOW LONG!?!?!?! Twisted Evil

Backstabing tactics you say? You have seceret ally and mention public ally? Who are we backstabing? Oh well...

Back to the topic: You offer x Amount of Minerals for a bunch of Armed ships. NEVER in my gaming experience have I transfer a LARGE amount of Armed ships to an enemy when I could be using them myself and providing MY PRT advantages in the process... if you where to offer this to an ally and they accepted it would be foolish, I hate to say it, but they where.

In Stars! each race has advantages and disadvantages, but if you transfer a war ship you are causing more harm than not. How is this, first you use up an entire Ship design slot in the process, and you are loosing the basic race traits that the ship was designed around and giving it to a player who has no hope of using it "correctly". For example think of a War Monger. He wants a bunch of his ships to be cloaked but doesn't feel like building cloakers, so he TRANSFERS the ships to his ally, an SS. 1st you loose the instinctive WM movement bonus, you have just waisted a whole year transfering the ships, and get this, THE SHIPS AREN'T YOURS ANY MORE!!!! Shocked That in mind why would anybody accept such an offer? Unarmed ships I can understand, Tech ships I can understand TO A POINT, but even then you risk the chance of your so called ally not only using them against you, but also using them poorly.

As a SS, the last thing you need is a backstab as they are based on hiding behind the lines, if there are no lines to hide from since you have just ADVERTISED you are a lying backstabber it makes those cloacks almost useless considering EVERYBODY is going to be looking for you.

Of course if you are playing in a game where there can be only one victory it can be understandable that you may wish to backstab, but even then your "ally" is expecting you to, and is planing to do so himself soon. "liven up the game", sure, but at the same time the tactic you used can be aproached in a different way... As SS, you have the ability to mobilize forces in your allies space without them knowing. Keep in mind though that if you are backstabing a player who is lower rank than you then it will DEFINATELY look bad on you, though if your "Public" ally is Publicly making an a$$ of himself then players will like you after words. Rather than just backstabing for the sake of Backstabing, work on your enemies needs and work towards that end, that way, as a SS you will have friends after the smoke has cleared and you will be ready to take out another enemy, your fources growing stronger and stronger as time passes by.

Either way, if I am in a game with you, don't feel insulted if I laugh at you when you ask for a bunch of my ships... or if those ships I was going to give you end up being my entier fleet, NOT transfered, and in orbit along with my own flock of 98% cloacked ships armed to the teath. In every game I have played my alliances I have forged have been based on trustworthyness and negotiation. Honor above all else as well, the alliances in writing consisting of basic NAP limitations, Tech negotiations, and get this, AN ESCAPE CLAUSE. If at any point in time my ally where to Backstab me, they have in effect focused their might against me, weakening their own defenses, showing a weakness. Even my enemies have played as my own Allies, for example the Pigs in Space in the game Battle for Glory 2, they had attacked everybody around me, no backstabbing, just all out masacure. In effect he had created allies for me, letting me take advantage of the situation. Before I knew it my WM monster had obtained Speed Bump mine fields and Standard Mine Fields around every planet with Mine Sweepers, Heavy Dreadnaught Beamers, and Deadly Bombers rampaging throuhgout the PIS empire.

Before you think about backstabing ever, think of your neighbors, friends or not, think of your situation, and fully take advantage of all you have to give... and I can assure you, that will get you further in a game than Backstabing. Sure it is part of the game, but in my mind Backstabbing is indeed a weak way of obtaining victory, as they are to affraid to take you head on. If you where to do that at one point, I would be sure to spread my forces and have Large Transports in orbit of all my border planets ready to quick escape, but at the same time leaving 100 colonists and a number of mineral Packets hitting key planets all along our once allied border, my forces swarming all over the place, spread out but in large enough numbers to ravage your transports, take out your starbases, and bomb enough of your planets to hinder your economy sensless right in turn.

Of course these are all empty threats, but wait till you play against an Expert Stars! player. Backstabing tactics won't work, your "seceret" movements won't work, as their superior power will overwhelm you. I have seen this and have been in part of a renegade force against such a backstabing force, seeing the sheer swift power that an expert can deal to an enemy with so little units, even after the backstaber had taken a large number of their empire. If you are going to backstab, do it quickly, do it swiftly, but most of all do it with all your neighbors aiding you in the effort, making it a mutual desicion, rather than a personal insult.

Now that I have put forth my limited knowledge of both Sun Tzu, Gaming Exp in both Diplomacy and SS, and my empty taunts and rather pathetic attempt to boost my ego Very Happy I wish you luck in future games, and hope you choose wisely your moments of attacks, and that you may survive the thrashings of your future games to come for attempting to take advantage of trust and honor. Just keep in mind the Mindfull ally will anticipate any backstabing anticks and retaliate accordingly.

My your future games treat you better than it did those I have seen slaughtered by the experts I have played with...

Best wishes, Stalwart

P.S. Is it just me or do I type a LOT! Very Happy Laughing
