Edog, you have piqued my interest, so your post gets my 100th post on AH. You lucky edog! Wink

It's not the actual numbers that are important right now, although they will become more important as the game progresses. Instead, it is the type of game that Edog is promoting here. As someone has so generously pointed out, assuming 4k resources per planet, which is an HP econ through and through, it would take 250 planets to get a million-resource empire. Well, that's just not a viable goal for one race now is it? So Edog was looking to promote team play. I can hang with that. Of course, we can see right away that 4 such econ monster races would still require ~62-63 planets each to get that magic million-resource mark. So we have to bring the numbers down a notch to get them a bit more realistic and "attainable".

But remember, we are playing in a large, dense universe. This game will take a LONG time to finish. People will start dropping like flies around, say, 2520 or so from such things as boredom, entropy, the "I don't stand a chance, now" syndrome. Things like that. So actually reaching the million-resource mark will become a moot point, don't cha think?

But wait! There's more!

Tech level 26 in ALL catagories! Well, you've already got a team going now (you had better have a team or you're going to die! well...maybe you'll just wither on the vine.) So now you can work with your team and get those magic levels spread among the four of you. Tech level 26 in two catagories per team is possible, even if you have all expensive tech, within a reasonable time period. Better have that team. You better be researching instead of fighting, unless there is a clear-cut, strategic benefit to war.

Now, I gotta have 6 (count 'em - six!) discrete MT toys as a victory condition. There's going to be freighters zipping all over the place trying to run down those sneaky, fast MTs. Won't you love ruining their day when your cloaked BBs catch 'em without any escorts? Yeah, I knew you would. But I digress, no - actually I segway (sp?) into the next portion of the lecture.

RACE DESIGN!

Oh sure, everybody is either saying it has to be CA or you die, or everybody second-guesses their way into having 10 ARs in the game. That's the popular opinion. But who among us is popular? We're a bunch of clench-jawed, monomanic introverts who constantly think outside the box because ... well, we can't find the box, OK! But never mind about that! With this game, we can't run out a -f WM and beat everybody into submission and think we can win the game. Right? Of course I'm right. With my ego I can't afford to be wrong. Nor can you tweak your favorite HP JOAT and expect to win on econ alone. No way. Oh, well you could come close assuming no on opposes your expansion and everybody else is also playing a slow-growing HP race and that they play very non-aggressively. Yeah, you could manage it. But what are the odds of all that happening? Well, you better hope you ain't playing next door to me, brother, 'cause I love having HP's for lunch!

But I brag.

Forget the numbers! This is a good game of strategy, with enough elements of pure chance and blinding skill to make it worth while.

But what do I know? I voted Republican. Yes

As for the password thing. I trust you, but who am I? Do yourself a favor and find someone to hold the passwords for you. It'll save everyone a lot of grief later on, and you still have the ability to keep the game going when someone flies the coup.

I would not mind playing. I haven't played in over a year. But, I'm wondering how you are going to handle people taking vacations, having emergencies and such, because you know it's a gonna happen. If I play, it's a guaranteed event. I have a week in April already planned. Of course, if you already have a team in place there will be at least one person to take over for you, although someone else never plays it the way you would. But that's just a quibble on my part and not that important so why am I bothering you with these nonsense questions anyway. WTH

Your humble servant,
The Crusader Angel
