Shocked Shocked Shocked

SPLAT....

Eek

I just got to experience a Evil or Very Mad nice Evil or Very Mad little bug I'd heard about once before... Rolling Eyes

All the players set Observer race to friendly. But then some bright spark decided to let loose on the enemy scouts orbiting the Observer homeworld... With missile ships.

Much to his (and my) surprise the gunners got a little... trigger happy... Shocked and loosed all their excess missiles at the friendly starbase, two dozen orbiting population transports, and half a dozen max-penscan-tech eight-elephantscanners-each scanning ships Crying or Very Sad

Needless to say, all ships are now banned from entering orbit of the Observer homeworld... Rolling Eyes

Simple answer, one of those players didn't set you to friend.. More than likely the one who attacked you. If everyone says your a friend, and DOESN'T HAve orders to attack their friends. Then your ships would NEVER have been in that battle.

Rule 1: "Pillage, THEN burn!"

Nope, not the case here.

I'm the game host, so I was able to verify that all the players had me set to friend. I was also able to verify the offending ships had default 'attack neutrals and enemies' orders. Genuine case of 'friendly fire'

I've heard of this bug before... Maybe I'll go hunt down some old posts to show you.

Oh, and by the way, I had everybody else set to neutral (so they can't use my starbase for refueling/stargating)

And what were your battle orders? If your ships were willing to fire...

Even if they're unarmed...

Hi!

The gunners were probably dazed from all that pen-scanning power radiating from ships and thought it's some kind of psi-attack. Wink

Not possible to set battle orders on a starbase, that could explain it.

Bad luck that the Observers happened to start right next to the armed ships too - it was a 5 way battle... 3 scouts, one observer, and one nutcase Laughing

My understanding/experience is that SBs always use the Default battle orders, so you can sort of set battle orders for the SB, but it has to be by editing the Default orders.

Starbases always use any/any orders (forgot the tactic) and always attack neutrals. At least they sweep neutral minefields, haven't tested neutral ships yet but that might indeed be what happend, the starbase might have started the battle ...
