OS, and we've already got fairly solid guides on how to resolve that (it's just moderately tedious to actually do). Hosting is pretty easy.
Main problem the community has is lack of players, TBH. Hard to recruit newbies when there's a technical barrier to entry, even if there are guides and pre-made programs available. Also, it's not flashy or quick.

I was talking with a friend of mine the other day, being able to play Stars from a Browser would be amazing.
The "Internet"/"Cloud-based Computing" already has a number of websites dedicated to running DOS-Based Games from the browser, and it would be amazing if people could find a way to make that happen through an emulated Virtual Desktop with the Stars! Code held within the Virtual Desktop. Stars! itself is inherently a Shareware with the code acting as the only factor limiting gameplay.
If somebody else has figured out or have tried doing this, please let me know! If not I'll try to follow up in the days/weeks/months to come if I find anything else myself.
Thanks for taking the initiative on this raptor!

Your concept is very promising and I wanted to thank you for your idea + time now, least I forget later.
I'll try this out on a less busy weekend, but the concept of playing stars on my browser on a travel trip is just brilliant.

raptor wrote on Fri, 30 December 2016 18:23Funny you mention about Stars! in a browser because I just started this a few days ago:
https://github.com/stars-4x/stars-browser
It isn't ready for normal use, though, because there are some issues with turn generation and saved games that I'm still working out. But it does run!
If I can get these issues solved, then loads of enhancements could be made!
any further traction on this?
edit: oops my mistake, didn't see the other thread before i posted.
