Its gonna be unbalanced no matter what. Im basing teams on beginner, experienced, and pro( number of games played). A pro here might only be as good as some experienced players and visa versa. Some experienced players may be just as good as some of the beginners.
|
So why a) worry so much about it when most people have expressed they don't mind the inconsistencies and b) not allow friends to be in the same team, when that said team consists of a rough balance of the skills you are specifically aiming for?
slimdrag00n wrote on Wed, 10 June 2009 00:20 |
I dont think i should post teams yet because i need one more player. If i post now before getting the last player and you start talking race designs it would mess things up if i have to change the teams. Plus it would give the showed teams advantage for more time to talk.
|
Things are already "messed up" in that lots of players (not just my proposed team) have already talked about race design, revealing details and full race designs, who will end up playing against each other with knowledge of exactly what they are likely to face. The alternative to that is for those players to choose sub-optimal designs just to hide their design from their friends.
slimdrag00n wrote on Wed, 10 June 2009 00:20 |
Im doing what i think is fair as possible. Rushing me isnt helping. You dont want to end up on a really bad team. What I choose will most likly be set in stone cause ill be thinking hard about it.
|
OK, it's your game and you can run it how you like. But ending up on a bad team is exactly the reason why I will not be participating in a close team game where I do not get to decide who I will be playing with for the next ~6 months. Also, you have said yourself that you cannot effectively gauge who is good and who is mediocre, or who will work well together, so teams you produce will be arbitrary anyway...
The bottom line is that in my original post I said I would sign up on the condition that we were able to specify our own teams. If we cannot, that's fine, just don't be upset if you find yourself looking for more than one extra player.

I hope you will stay with us, Kaloth. I don't think you or anyone will have to deal with making "sub-optimal" designs. Stars! has a great variety of great balanced designs. That is what makes it great.
I for one appreciate the attempt at keeping a level playing field. Using your logic, if you got to keep your team, then the rest of us should drop out, because of your unfair advantage of having more time to design your races, and the more optimal tactical advantage of better communication with your friends.
I am easy either way, really, but variety is the spice of life. Stay with us, and make some new friends, and enjoy playing *against* your friends.
If you want to play a team "duel" where you are posting a team against all comers, then post it that way as a separate game, and allow others to get together and pre-select their teams as well. That would also be fun.
heh... I guess everything is fun in stars!

Hi ,
maybe i could help you out as player in this game . I think I am at least a Experienced player . By the settings I would be a pro .
So I could take the Pro for one ofthe teams and Coyote and his frieds could go for there team.

I took out CA because I hate the race for its over powering abilities.
Group 1: JoAT, IT
|
I have only 2 thinks we should think about . Took out CA in the
first Group is not a real good idea. So every team will have a IT wht is boring.
slimdrag00n wrote on Mon, 25 May 2009 05:53 |
Also game will go on if a team member leaves the game and still cant find a replacement.
|
Later in the game going on with a game where one of the teams could not go on and skips turns will crush the game.It would be ok if one of the team mates plays the races as long as a replacement is found. If not possible we should wait.

Random Events On

Should be off special in a team game . You dont need them . And Hit by a meteroit is still not funny.
When you change at least the replacement rule you could count me in.

Universe
Medium Dense with remapped HW's Thanks to Gible.
12 Players divided in to 4 teams of 3 based on skill level.
Game parameters
Yes Slow Tech Advances
Yes Accelerated BBS
Random Events off
Chaff and Split Fleet Dodge allowed, Repair after gating loophole is ok because that's bound to happen no matter what when merging all other cheats are banned.
All players not on your team must be set to Enemy
May only share tech, intel, and trade with members of own team.
Learning how to Host for the first time on Auto Host so bare with me.
Race Restrictions
Teams can pick only 1 race from each grouping. Once teams are established there will be a 10 to 14 day window to discuss with your teammates race design(hopefully sooner to get it rolling Gibles way to remap HW's). I will not be posting players emails on the forum so you will have to PM your teammates in order to get hold of them once list is established.
Group 1: JoAT, IT, CA
Group 2: IS, SD, HE
Group 3: WM, SS, PP
Group 4: AR
Restrictions: Group 1 cannot be chosen by Pro's.
Only Beginners can choose CA.
CA 100 points left over
Victory goes to Last Team Standing.
Skill level will be determined by number of games play so when you say your in also include the number of game you have played including those still running. I will try to keep the teams as balanced as possible based on this system when making the team.
Also please list your time zones.
Skill groups are;
5 or less games played -Beginner
6 - 11 games played -Experienced
12+ games played. -Pro
A list of teams will be posted by me prior to race design, any grievances regarding teams must be stated within 72 hours of list being posted in hopes of possible change.
I want to try to stay with a Monday threw Friday for turns at least till turn 20 these turns really shouldn't take to long to complete. After that if the majority wants we will go to a 4 turn a week. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.
If a player leaves due to real life. I think 3 weeks is a well reasonable time frame to find replacement or continue on without one after that time by majority vote.
Mark Hewitt will be the race checker. (Thank you.)

I think thats it and good luck to everyone
