Assisted 'research' isn't that new - google and yahoo have both, but I think this may be the first 'live' one, and free to boot.
http://www.chacha.com
Just go to the website, put in some search terms and click 'search with guide'. It starts up a chat session with one of their 'guides' . I gave it two attempts with the search terms "live comedy sydney thursday" (a search that gives a ton of irrelevant results.)
The first guide appeared to give up on me (just stopped responding to messages.) The second guide was actually better than me at searching (and I reckon I'm pretty good.) She also said apparently the system is still a bit dodgy (in beta) so maybe the first guide just had technical problems.
Well worth a play with, just for the novelty if nothing else.

Not technically a 'cool' thing, but it amused me...
If you have Excel 2007.... 850x77.1
Some bug regarding multiplicitive results that result in precisely 2^16 - 1 ...
