To match Stars! I need to know how it calculates starting minerals.
I think it's tied to starting mineral concentrations, but I don't know how.
Some questions:
If it is strongly tied to mineral concentrations, and the HW starts with a mineral concentration of 30 (minimum because it's a HW) does the world sometimes start out with less then other worlds with mineral concentrations of 30?
How do extra points to surface minerals affect the totals?
How do extra points to mineral concentrations affect the surface minerals?

With a few quick tests I've learned a few things:
It seems to be loosly tied to mineral concentrations, normally between 3 and 10 times MC. If the value is 30, I've seen it up to 16 times the MC. I don't know if the bonus is real, if it's because the MC is below 30, or just because it's the lowest concentration. Some statistical analysis is probably needed here.
All races start with the same minerals and mineral concentraions, execpt those races who put points into starting concentrations or surface minerals. Points put into starting mineral concentrations do not affect starting minerals. Neither do points into starting mines.
Points to surface minerals gives roughly 5 times the points for the lowest mineral stockpile (mineral concentrations ignored for this), and 2.5 times for the other two.
As an comparison, points to concentrations gives trunc((points + 2) / 4 * 3) for the lowest concentraion, and trunc((points + 2) / 4) for the other two.
Edit - fixed wording in a few places to make things less confusing.

I have seen 13 x MC even with conc like 103.
Maybe random between 200 kT and 15 x MC plus race design modifier ... is close enough?
[edit]
Jep ... just got 223 bora with conc 113 so its less than 2 *?? I have got 200 minerals several times but i never have had less than 200 of anything so far.
Probably IT/PP secondary worlds need investigation too?

Is there an obvious minimum and maximum value to this data ?
From Kotk it sounds like there is a minimum that doesn't depend on the min conc, but no such discussion of maximums.
I'll have a look at Orca's data if you like.

I'm in the process of genning a large set of large packed universes for analysis. Total size should be around 1.1 gigabytes uncompressed, plus HW and secondary data. Compressed it should be substantially smaller - probably 5-10% of the original size. Once it's complete I'll upload it somewhere.

But for the study of surface mins then surely you can only get one (or 3) items of data per universe.
In one universe all HWs have the same starting amounts and non-HWs don't get starting minerals.
