One of my players recently received this message:

Your population suspects you are a usurper. Their productivity is off 20%
and their growth rate was halved last year. Press 'Goto' to validate your
copy of Stars!

h Fleet #1 has been damaged by your detonating Grav mine field at
Space (767, -1). Your mines have inflicted 99 damage points, but you didn't
manage to destroy any ships. (he's an IT)

And his (???) people on 007 and defenses destroyed the 17 billion (!?!)
invaders of player 13 (!?!?!) (he doesn't own 007 and we only have 7 players)

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Whats strange about this is... we're in year 2448...

I've written him to see if he changed computers recently, but my question is this.

Has anyone ever heard of a serial # problem with just one person?? Anytime I've had the freedom fighters stealing my minerals and refusing to move my ships, its always been when it thought I shared a number with someone... Always 2 people were affected...

Anybody had this problem before???? Mad Rolling Eyes

Never seen those messages before ... very strange ones ...

But it is possible to have a serial # problem with only one person. There are a lot of illegal serial #'s that are blocked in jRC3 (they ares still valid in the older versions), if a person is still using one than he gets those usurper messages ...

mch

Strange? These sorts of things happen all the time in the Random Plagues game. Very Happy
48 is a good year though.

Random Plagues, Random Plagues - where have I heard that name??? Laughing

Seriously.. why would it come up after 48 years of no problems? We haven't switched over to anything... We've been running under JRC4 almost the whole game.

The only thing I can think of is he changed his serial number...

Surprised Shocked Rolling Eyes bad move...

Turns out he did nothing different...

Perhaps a strange Stars! quirk?

One of my favorite Texans Razz found this article from back in 2001. Very Happy Interesting though, I will be anxious to hear if my player has any of the same problems. I sent him the article and he was not encouraged. Shocked

Hi

I've been playing Stars! a while now and almost entirely through
Autohost.

Lately I've suffered a series of problems with one game whilst the
others carried on as normal. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on
what's happened.

Around turn 2438 my race decided I was a Usurper and wreaked my
position.
This was a surprise as my serial No. is perfectly legit and there was
no issue of someone using the same one. The game was regenned and
seemed to work fine for 1 turn and then for 2 turns in a row no orders
were acted upon. Autohost reported I had uploaded a turn each time but
the turn went entirely as if I had ordered nothing at all.

This was slightly frustrating but on the next turn autohost reported
my .x file corrupt so I missed the turn. Following this it wnt back to
accepting the turn but not acting on any of the orders.

4 turns without any orders is slightly unhealthy for my position and
sanity and any help woud be appreiciated.

Bob

Perhaps there is some way to make your race think you are evil? Perhaps its legacy coding from something that was taken out... perhaps its hiding a bug.
