Gatling Question... |

I was wondering if someone could clarify the mechanics of the Gatling class of beam weapons...
The way the description reads, I would expect the Gatling, once in range to dispense (Capacitors and Deflectors aside) 31 points of damage to all targets in range.
However, a recent battle in which I participated, painted a rather different picture.
I had a Battleship armed with 20 Gatlings.
My opponent had about a dozen destroyers, armed with 3 Gatlings apiece, and about 500 points of armour each.
I thought my BS would damage each destroyer in range by 620 points each turn.
As it turns out, my poor lumbering ship was torn to bits by the little people in a few turns of combat.
I'd be grateful if somebody could shed some light on this situation, so I can make better informed mistakes in the future.

Hi ,
The gatlings damage each token in range so if your opponet have all his desroyer in 1 fleet ( token in battle ) you only do your damage once . If he split his fleet you would do damage to them all .
hope this helps you .

No, chaff will work fine if it is all in 1 fleet. The limit for missiles is 1 _ship_ killed per missile.

The main reason to use the gatling gun in battle is that it deals more firepower than the Colloidal and has far more initiative, at the cost of 1 range; so if your ships are lighter unarmored BBs up against armored BB beamers, they can give you an edge, or on cruisers against colloidal BBs they can give you at least a better chance.
Plus they're great for throwing on destroyers or cloaked cruisers for minesweeping, which is usually what they get used for.

Apparently, weapons in the Gatling class sweep mines as if they had a range 2 greater than that advertised.
|
I believe it's mentioned in the item description that gatling weapons sweep mines as if they were double their range.
