New to Stars!

First off, please forgive me a brief posting here. I am recently bought this game from a friend. He has not played in years. I have been searching online for a long time tonight trying to see if anyone is still playing the game. Stars! looks very interesting but only as a multiplayer game. I guess I have a few questions and if you could help me out I would really appreciate it.

1. Does anyone play this game multiplayer anymore? If so where do I find a game?

2. Is there a place where I can chat with people about the game?

3. What is the latest version of the game and where can I get it?

4. Is there documentation for the game other then the game manua I got from my friend?

5. Lastly does anyone have advise for me? I have been playing SE4 and enjoying it, Stars! seems similar but different.

Of course! Look in the "New Game Announcements" forum, there are a number of games in there that are open. You would do best to look for a beginer game.

I believe it is 2.6j (2.7j retail). Downloads section I think..

The help file. The best repository of information is on the internet, on the news groups or on here.

Stars takes a while to play generally. Count on at least 4 months, and likely 8 or even more to play a full game. So read up on race design, rule sets, beat up on the AI a few times. Keep your eye on the 'New Game Announcements' for that beginner's game. Bounce

2.7j RC4 (release candiate 4 - for server side), 2.7j RC3 for all others. 2.6j RC3 is the same but withoud sound.

Check the google group rec.games.computer.stars. Not so active recently, but with tons of answered questions on just about everything. The other source is StarsFAQ site www.starsfaq.com with nice articles, written especially for new players.

Read articles about economy and start doing testbeds. Until you're not able to hit 25k econ at 2450 in a dense uni with AccBBS start you're not supposed too play against humans and enjoy the game at the same time Wink

. When you hit 100 benchmark BBs before turn 70 in the same universe with non-econ race, you're ready to win a beginner/low intermediate game Twisted Evil

I would recommend beating a few AIs some times, just to get the hang of the game. Diving into multiplayer at once might be difficult. Multiplayer is way more fun than beating AIs though.. Very Happy

Additionally, I think stars is one of the few games where it actually helps a lot to play the tutorial if you are a complete newbie.
