I'm Planning a new tournament of 3 games as discussed by donjon and ForceUser (me) in the Bar. See also this link to my site

http://www.groep7.co.za/stars/tournament.htm

THE LIST
- Brett Nash *
- True-Chaos
- Data Slycer
- Slave of Seven *
- Brian Wiersma *

Those whose e-mail address I've got is marked with a * after there name. E-mail me so that I can get you e-mail address.

General Rules that counts for all games:
- You miss 3 turns in a row without telling me and your'e OUT.
- NO team victories. You can still make teams but "There can be only one"
- Cheats : Not shure yet coz I don't even know what half of them are CALLED, nevermind what they are or how to look for them.
- All games will be anonymous, which means no email addresses will be published, no players will use their "standard" race names.

I think I'll give each player a new name each game. If anybody's got a few nice names I could put into the "Race Name Hat" e-mail them to me at strydomi at iafrica dot com

I read the further details on your web site and it states on there that it's a tournament game with the following excerps:

Quote:

Players : 13 Best players from the previous game

Quote:

All games will run in succession; the first 30 turns will be set to 24 hour spacing for each game, the next 50 turns will be set to 48 hour spacing, however the last 15 turns of a round will also have the first 30 turns of the next round simultaneously. This is to ensure that the tournament can be successfully completed within a year.

So my question is: if the first game has not yet been completed (due to having a 15 year overlap), then how will you know whom the best 13 players are for the next game ?

Quote:

I think I'll give each player a new name each game. If anybody's got a few nice names I could put into the "Race Name Hat".

How about:-
Cats: Lion, tiger, jaguar, puma, house cat, lynx, caracal, ocelot, panther, mountain lion, leopard, cheetah, cougar, bobcat.

Colours: Red, yellow, green , blue, orange, gray, black, white, brown, amber, teal, purple, violet, lemon, ivory, beige, pink, scarlett, maroon, salmon, lilac.

You could also do:
Greek/Egyptian/Roman/Indian Gods,

Countries of the world:

Ancients peoples: Huns, Hittites, Romans, Nubians, Greeks,
Mongols, Gauls, Visigoths, Scots, Saxons, Vikings, Aztecs, Mayan, Incan, Zulu, etc.

Insects: flea, tick, mantis, fly, cicada, locust, wasp, beetle, ant, moth, butterfly, cricket, cockroach, aphid, etc.,

Computers/companies: IBM, Apple, Microsoft, Compac, Macintosh, Sun, Digital, Lotus, Amiga, Hewlett Packard, Nintendo, etc.
Actually that's not a bad one. That way everyone could gang up on Microsoft and kick their A#$@ like they deserve ! Twisted Evil

Heroes/felons: Napoleon Bonaparte, Adolph Hitler, William Wallace, Robin Hood, Ghenghis Khan, Ned Kelly, Jesse James, William Tell, Joan of Arc, Attila the Hun, Hannibal, Julius Caesar, Cleopatra, etc.

Superheroes/famous persons: Superman, Spiderman, Hulk, Dick Tracey, James Bond, Batman, etc.

Natural forces: Tidal wave, earthquake, gravity, lightning, thunder, hurricane, avalanche, whirlpool, waterfall, magnetism, monsoon, tsunami, tornado, etc.

How about something more controversial like religion: Razz
Christian, Muslim, Judaist, Devil Worshipper, Infidel, Agnostic, Atheist, Buddhist, Hindu, Pagan, Sikh, Spiritualist, Hari Krisna, etc.

Dieases: Malaria, chicken pox, scarlett fever, typhoid, denghi fever, measles, botox, elephantisis, smallpox, mumps, ringworm, yellow fever, typhus, cholera, anthrax, rubella, Mondayitis Smile

I'm very glad SOMEONE is taking an intrest. Yes I've been wondering about that 15 year overlap thingy too... Most likely, since it's beginners, I'd be lucky if I'm left with 13 players that did not drop out after 65 turns. Being a beginner myself, and playing in my FIRST 2 games EVER against humans, I've had the feeling of just wanting to drop out coz it's to much.

Thanks VERY much for the name sugjestion and I'll definately use some of them, thanks. I could write a nice randomizer program in TP.

Cheats can be found at the Stars!FAQ or here at the forum in the Academy, which is more up to date, the topic is called: Known Bugs (JRC3).

The most common setting seems to be: all cheats banned, except chaff and split fleet allowed.

Please note that tutorial is outdated. If you will be following its hints you risk to be torn to shreds very soon. I'd suggest you to read articles (and do some testbeds) on economy on StarsFAQ (www.starsfaq.com) site before entering any beginner PBEM game. Beginners of today aren't like beginners used to be. ABSOLUTELY! The best way to learn is by failing. Confused3

Yeah, I know, it sounds wierd when put into words. I hate losing. I'm sure that blackrose does too. But get into the crucible and get slammed, banged, burned and blasted and I guarantee that there will be "some" learning going on.

I like his spirit! Cool

Of course, I was never that brave ... Lurking

I lurked on the NG for months, then I started asking questions. Question You know. Those newbie questions that absolutely eat up the NG bandwidth. Work at computer This, of course, introduced me to the concept of the "troll" Arguing *sigh* But eventually I wised up (?) Rolling Eyes and settled in to actually playing the game, where I then learned to over-analyze my game Sherlock , thus sucking all the fun right out of Stars! due to my (then) one-eyed view of the Stars! universe. Crying But then I had a wonderful idea New idea . I would simply play to have fun! Yey

And, yet, I find that I have the most fun when winning. Confused Winning causes me to learn less and become overconfident Smirk , leaving me vulnerable to losing. Shocked

So, if'n your ego can take a bashing and still float, then I recommend that you by all means play! Thumbsup 2 Just remember though ... we will be watching you! WTH
