I've got a series of .bmp files showing territory over the duration of a game which I'd like to combine into single movie file. Cool

Has anybody here done this before? Any recommended utility for generating the movie file (I'm guessing some sort of basic morphing utility would provide for the smoothest result.)

I could just put them all into 1 animated .gif file, but the resulting filesize would be huge, and provide a jerky result. Sad

The .bmps are about 1M each, although I can reduce this substantially by converting to jpg and/or resizing the image.

I'd advise converting to .jpeg and saving some space. Probably better for animating possibly as well (or making it fairly small.)

Let me know if you find something. I'd like to "animate" some territory maps from the RWIAB games if I could.

If you want to go fancy... Macromedia Flash work fine for it. It might be considered overkill but if it works, why not use it?

Why not just use animated gifs?

Most image programs can join them quite easily, if you are really desperate use gimp (2.0 has just been released, and works on microsoft windows). http://www.gimp.org/

Gifs are HUGE while flash movies are relatively small

Theres gonna be about 70 images in the sequence, so a gif would be massive.... I'm not sure flash will work out much smaller though as it still has to include all the original image files.... Crying or Very Sad

I was hoping somebody would direct me to a jpg -> mpg converter, as this way the file would only contain the changes between the files. Trouble is, if you search on 'jpg mpg' in google you mostly just get porn sites Embarassed

I am just coverting my .bmp files into .jpg and putting them into microsoft ppt, with a delay of o seconds between slides. Crude, but it works for me. Razz

lol, I managed to find a utility that could convert jpgs into a mpg with crossfade between the jpgs (good enough for me) but it was retail software and I don't have the $$$. Rolling Eyes

....Hang on...
... doh!....
I think Macromedia Flash is going to be the go for me. It's been a while since I last dusted it off. Awesome prog, don't know why I didn't think of it sooner...
