Just some little thought for a game challenge:
every player can use every weapon up to weapons tech 10. After that each race can only use A) Torpedoes B) Missiles or C)Beams.
The tech ten would allow all races to build chaff and minesweepers. I also think that bombs could be split up: Smart bombs, LBU's and that other kind....
Mystery trader items can be used by all. (multi contained munitions, bio-torpedo)
The players would be told which type of weapons they get to use before game so they can build around it. (Oh, I get torps, better be IS for the nifty jamming)
I'd be willing to host the game, but haven't hosted before, so maybe if there is decent interest. I'd also play with my little CA, the one that gets 28K resources instead of 200K, if the game did start.
As a host I wouldn't allow cheats other than chaff since that balances games nicely, usually(excepting for the guys using beams ... perhaps) And no CA with growths above 15%... because of those darn super monsters, I don't want to really ban a PRT that I like so much .
Actually to balance it maybe, missile races use the factory destroying bombs. Torpedo races use the middle type of bomb, and beam races get stuck with smart bombs. If I got nine people the game would be nice, three races with each combo so alliances between them would be rather natural, but no ship trading to balance fleets like that now
