Newbie looking to get started

Hi all.

I've only ever played against AI, and not much at that, and I'm looking to get involved in a standard game. Anyone thinking of starting up a game where newbies are welcome?

There are a whole lot of beginners people looking for games, but no-one willing to host them.

"Beginners with Battleships" was started a while back and was over-subscribed by quite a bit. Someone stepped forward and offered to host another beginners game (First Contact), but vanished before the game started.

Hosting is really not a big deal, and there are plenty of people willing to help, so if you want to play, start a game. You'll have plenty of takers.

If the host isn't going to play, I sugges that they provide suggestions on the race files submitted. I did this for Wonka, and most people made at least a few changes. I think this will lead to a better game, if everyone has at least a decent race.

One person with a broken race can really mess up a game, they don't do well, and quit (even if they submit turns, they don't really put much effort into them). Their neighbors have extra room to expand, ...
