Hi,
Due to a nice 2 week holiday driving around europe starting next weekend I'm looking for someone to babysit my empire for that period. The position is a SD, its in a reasonable condition, and things are getting interesting politically. So might be fun.
Anyone interested I would be very grateful and willing to reciprocate in the future.
Kind Regards
Drew

Hi, I'm looking for a temporary replacement for one of my games, time will be 2 weeks.
Info that I can share: PRT is IT and has no LRTs, no-one in the game has any, another rule is "only one friend and only two neutrals allowed".
Currently not involved in a war.
The universe is medium/dense and there are 10 players, year is 2486.
Turnrate: Mo-We-Fr.
Contact me via a private message or at: micha.vandormael@box.be (replace box with pandora).
Regards,
mch

Hi,
It seems time has finally caught up to me. After struggling so long to keep up with my Stars! commitments and a number of other parts of my life, I've finally had to bow down and accept that playing four games at much is too much.
So rather than pawn any particular game off to someone, I'm going to leave it to you to choose which race you'd like to take over.
I would probably like to hand over 2 races, but I think I should be able to get by for a while with 3 races.
Game names, race names and descriptions follow:
Capture the Flag (Medium-Dense): The Naphtas. I can't divulge many details about this race at this stage, as it's quite early in the game. It is a team game, and the support of the team members are phenomenal. The private forum makes for a very intriguing experience. I would recommend this one to someone who's had somewhat of an experience with Stars!. Race is 'religious' themed.
Quite All Right (Tiny-Sparse): The Kurtzers. I host this game, and I won't be giving up that duty, should a person apply for this race. QAR is a tiny-sparse game with an extreme-right hab race requirement. The game is won by occupying at least half of the homeworlds. The universe largely consists of SD races with a few varieties. My own is a max-growth IS race. It is now becoming very, very interesting, and whereas a couple of turns ago I was in first place, I have dropped back to 4th place. Nothing that can't be recovered without some effort. I would recommend this to someone with a strategic and creative mind as there is a minimal amount of MM and a huge amount of strategy required. Race is themed after Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now.
We are all the Same (Huge-Normal): The Outsiders. This game is AR-only and is suitable for someone who wants to start out in Stars!. My race was rather slow to start as I chose a minimal amount of helpful LRTs but it is becoming stronger and anyone who would love the chance to dig into some MM and get things into order would appreciate this race. If you want to play AR as a race to win and not as a race to be a slave to other races, then you would be interested in this game. Nice neighbours too. The race is, umm, 'outsider' themed, as in not exactly the easiest to communicate with. I've been playing down that part recently though.
Zared 2 (Huge-Dense): The Settembrinis. I want to give this to someone who wants to invest their time extensively into it, because the race is in first place and still accelerating. Although it is 2460, slow tech advances have made everything slower, so it feels more like about 2445, I believe. I am in an excellent position, largely because it is CA, and I lead in resources and tech levels. I have taken care with this race and managed it excellently, and I've got good relations with my neighbours. I am in the process currently of gobbling up some nearby weaker races and now is a very interesting time. This is probably the one I'm least inclined to give up because it's the one I have the most fun in, despite being the one that takes up the most of my time. Still, if you feel that you would love the chance to play a race like this, I could be interested. Race is themed after a Dune-like House society, I suppose.
I am not engaged in any major wars in any game besides maybe QAR (but there the universe has always been in constant turmoil), although each race is reaching a point where war could break out.
If anyone is interested in taking over any particular race, I will of course give you the .h files and passwords, and I'll step you through a couple of the turns to get you up to speed on what's happening. I use MSN ( djhakase@the-popular-MS-web-mail-service ) and ICQ ( 13956049 ). You can PM me or email me at djhakase@bigpond.net.ua - switch the last two letters.
Definitely *no more* than two games at one.

Hello all,
I hope this is the right board to post this... I already posted on RGCS and a french board [and starbase delta] but no interest showed up so far. If not, sorry...
This is a large game with only 4 players left, on autohost. I am in 1st position with a AR race, currently at war, almost full tech available (no really interesting MT toy however, so far) - year is 2507.
Enemies are #2 an IT quite powerful and #3 a SD not very skilled. My race is quite in good position to win although AR, so it is an interesting position to play. Not everyday you can play a grown up AR with his mineral fountain flowing up!
Only downside is *huge* MM, reason why I am quiting the game, and the only one, because I would really like to finish it. Real life took over. (I just didn't expected to survive and strive when I joined, I just wanted to give a try to AR)
So if you have plenty of time, are interested in this game and race, this is for you! I expect skilled player (preference with some experience with AR) so the issue of the game is not pre-determined for the IT to win. The player is quite skilled. Basically it is a duel between the IT and the AR with some annoyance with the SD and a small JoaT trying to survive.
For more details and if you are interested, please write to me at yfrita -at- yahoo -dot- fr
Hope someone around there is ready to take on the challenge!

WARNING: Stars! players new virus is in Stars! community.
The Bugbear virus has recently attempted to enter two Stars! player's systems. This appears to be a recent discovered/new strain and everyone should make sure their virus programs are up to snuff with recent updates. Apparently someone isn't!
This is an email worm. It is one of those viruses that once it is started on someone's system it randomly finds addresses on that user's system and sends out emails to random addresses. It could be from your system, or someone who has received emails from you and has you in their address book, which could be a long list. It also attaches randomly, notes, docs, txt, etc. from that person's system and emails them also. Also tries to turn off virus programs once active, etc.

I am coming at this from two different angles, both with an eye towards stars clones implementing functionality.
It is easy to lay out a map using random x and y location for planets.
There are a number of tools that lay things out, UC.ZIP will lay it out according to a bitmap, and conceptually there are likely algorithms that lay out according to certain shapes like spirals.
But I am having trouble finding information on how to do this.
Does anyone have leads or source code?

The 32k Merge bug (merging a fleet with a new total of > 32767 ships of the same type ) and the SS Pop Steal bug (setting a fleet waypoint of Load All Available for population) use very similar blocks. Getting one fixed meant it wasn't much work to get the other fixed as well.
Detection/fix isn't not quite integrated with TH yet (too many changes all at once, some more testing required), but the standalone script is working to identify (and fix) both. Woot!
Note: The FAQ says that the SS Pop Steal was fixed in JRC4, but I could replicate it with a Waypoint Task Transport Colonists Load All Available.

Mineral Upload
Stars! allows you to upload minerals to any fleet in orbit that does not belong to you. You can even do this if that fleet does not have a cargo hold. This causes the minerals to "disappear". People have abused this bug to deny the salvage of a battle from their enemy by uploading the minerals from the surface to the enemies warfleet/bombers.
I can now detect for and correct for this bug. Tricky, as upload orders only have fleet Ids. Fleet Ids only have design information, and design information includes the parts, but not the actual cargo capacity.
However, it's subtle, as you could be uploading minerals to an ally. My current process is:
Check to see if you're uploading minerals to a fleet that's not your own
Check the cargo capacity of the fleet.
If the cargo capacity is < the amount of minerals being uploaded, throw a public warning. I could either reset the upload to 0, or reset the upload to no more than the fleet capacity, but I'm trying to avoid rewriting block information where I don't have to (less risk of data corruption).
On the bright side, I think along the way I've gathered the pieces for detecting the Robber Baron and [freepop] Hack (since I can see the cargo capacity for a fleet).
