Actually like I said, hulls are immune to the "insufficent tech" problem. And since CA's can make them [OA's] anyway anyone could get 2 beefy OA's. And yes Ultra Miner with full OA's and.. I dunno.. Maybe an Enigma Pulsar and Jump gate???? Or 3 Transport Cloaks..
Actually ALL Peeping Toms use the same design.. IFE, IT.. Whatever all versions use the same thing.. Simple rule of thumb.. If it's got the same name, it's the same thing. So changing it is fairly easy that way.. And ALL Peeping Toms would be changed as a result..

Doh, ok, forgot the hull immunity.
I had a look and the Enigma Pulsar doesn't do much, for movement I mean, the build in jets can't get the heavy thing to move any faster, but good fuel usage.
Maybe a Mulit Function Pod? Gives some more movement.
4 slots of the alien miner? (or 8 slots?)
Jumpgate is not of much use since you can't gate it anyway (except IT of course).
The Mega Poly Shell pherhaps? Adds some jamming and shield, and as a bonus a penscan for the NAS races (but a small range of 52).

Hm, I think you mentioned the "same name" principle, just forgot it already.

Alien Miner? Well if you have ARM why do you need the Alien Miner? I mean you could share it. um.. Maybe.. But that would involve destroying it or loning it out.. Unless your ARM it can't both terraform AND extract ore.. Though that could be kinda funny
|
Yup, I too found it funny that you can't do both at the same time unless you are AR (not ARM ) and this would provide some choices to make (maybe call the design Dilemma "what to do what to do?? remote mine or terraform??" <pulling hair out>), makes the ship a bit more versatile, you could use it for what you need the most at a given time.
I found it's more interesting to give people a choice to what to do with the ship, having to make choices is good, else the use is just too obvious and you leave nothing for the player, you already made his choices for him.
This is IMHO one of the greatest things of Stars! - so may choices everywhere, in universe layout, race design, ship design, fleet design, strategies, ... nothing is ever the same! (Except for the CA monsters every now and then. )
Back to the Super OA ship, some more motivations to put in some alien miners:
-AR takes ARM 99% of the time, to get the Super Bugs of course but also because it means you'll start with 2 Potato Bugs (not checking ARM doesn't give you any starting miners) and those 2 free miners provide a good mineral boost for the AR since the population mining is just very very lousy.
Taking those miners away is no good for AR who can use any help they can get at the start! With these Super OA ships the AR PRT becomes more attractive and better playable with more chance on survival! (I like it! I love AR and would play it more often if it wasn't so weak to start with ...) AR resources depend on planet % and their minerals depend on remote mining, this kind of Super OA ship will help them very well ... only problem for them is keeping it safe ... they're easily destroyed Too bad you can't place the Multi Contained Munition in the back slot, it would give the ship some protection of his own, and you could lay mines, adding another choice! Maybe MPS is the be
-other ARM races might be using some really crappy mine settings, some early alien miners might help them out a bit in the beginning (they also lose the initial free miners!)
Quote: | Ultra Miner Hull: Enigma Pulsar, 12 OA's and 3... What? Mega Poly Shells? or Multi Caro Pods? or 3 Multi Function Pods? Could do 3 Transport Cloaks.. Since those take no tech even SS could get them.
|
Put in the alien miner and to make it easier on the AR put in the MPS, it gives the ship a bit more chance on survival.
The MFP will give it some protection since it has a good speed and the early fighting ships won't catch it easily (with AMs on board it might get to a movement of 2) ... but maybe more armor+shield is more useful ... don't know ... If the enemy wants your ship dead, it will be dead no matter what. And I think that taking out this starting ship will be one of the first goals of your enemies.
Maybe check out what design can survive the initial starting ships of a WM? (scout and destroyer)
The cloacks mean nothing, everybody will be planet hopping with their scouts anyway, and since it will always be at a planet it's easily found.

It'll take me a little while to find some place to post my pictures.. My little nook on the net is.... not working.. And currently I have to ask someone to post anything I want posted.. Plus...
What exactly did you want me to do to the Teamster, and the Change of Heart and those other ones? No one ever explained that one.. Oh is there any AR Spesific weapon or something anyone would like..
(yes this applies to AR as well) I could slap a bunch of them AR colony pods on some ship to make it a uber virus ship.. With a minimum kill rate of like 2000 per colony pod (which is decreased naturally by any planetary defenses..) Anyone one want something like that? (applies to all races since it's got low tech stuff on it. That could be only one of the ships functions... Hmm.. Could have done that to them super OA's.. or would Robber Barrons be better?) (Though who wouldn't like an orbital adjuster than can kill population AND remote mine??? Can be done.)

There should be 3 pictures there.. I sure hope you guys can see that.... If not tell me and I'll get it fixed... Again...
Those are 3 of the ships we were talking about...
I didn't include the starbase cause.. I dunno cause I think it wasn't done being haggled over.

A recent suggestion I heard though on the idea of "Salvaging" another game I happened to be playing.. Seemed like it could have some real merit with this stuff, and probably make this a viable game concept.
My adaption of idea.
A) Require all races to have the ARM LRT, transform "Potato Bugs" into Deathstars (or something else if you guys want). These 2 ships are your "Hero" ships, lose one and you MUST join sides with the race who slew one of your Heros, him and all his allies. Lose 2 and your MUST forfeit your race. (You lose).
I can fabricate these to be <300kt so eventually races will be capable of scuttling them about dispite their lack of engines. (of course J won't let me slap engines on it, as I've pointed out too much.)
B) I ban HEs and transform the Colony ships into Heros. Though rule set would have to be adjusted to B1) lose it and you die, or B2) lose it and your slave race to whom ever killed it, but kill it your self and you die.
As an added possible option I could publish a rather bland starmap showing where galactic inhabitants are spacially. Consider it like the SETI program, except it's ACTUALLY picked up radio signals from the other home worlds on the nameless starmap.
Course for that I probably shouldn't play, I guess. If then I'd love to be allowed to observe everyone. Might even be more fun for me.
Comments? Thoughts? Anyone up to try Option A? or B? or do you have an idea for an option C? (Other special ships are not impossible of course. Like as support or utility.)
